I'm reducing prices on a few items each week through the holiday shopping season, and this is one of them!

I decided to turn this board into the wonderful bread board you see here after I realized that, due to its size and unique grain pattern, I'd have a hard time working it into any other project. The way the grain lines cut through the board at such an angle, it offers much of the benefit of an end-grain chopping block, with the beauty of figured Bigleaf Maple (and a couple of small burls as a bonus!) After flattening and cutting to size, the board was hand-scraped smooth, then sanded through 400 grit for a satiny smoothness you will find in VERY few cutting boards! (The sanding and scraping alone took well over an hour!) It was given an initial coat of Tried and True Original Wood Finish, a polymerized Linseed oil-and-beeswax finish that cures in the wood, not on top of it. I followed that with additional coats of Howard Butcher Block Conditioner, a mix of beeswax and food-grade mineral oil, that adds additional deep protection, repels surface water, and has a wonderful satin luster. The small voids in the burls, as well as some very small drying cracks, were completely filled before sanding to ensure a smooth, even surface.

This would make a wonderful presentation for an artisan loaf, or you could serve a cheese course with 2 or 3 cheeses quite easily (and beautifully!) Great wedding gift for a "foodie" couple!

Not quite what you had in mind? Please see my other cutting boards here:

Dimensions are 5-1/2" wide by 25-3/4" long, by 3/4" thick. The hole in the end is 5/8" diameter for easy hanging on a peg, or to string with a cord for other hanging options.
