Vintage 1930s Sunbonnet Sue quilt block hand appliqued hand embroidered hand quilted yellow blue 1930's aged patina lovely prim measuring approx 13" x 13"

So vintage and prim, wonderful aged patina, sweet and on the shabby side.

I have salvaged and rescued several Sunbonnet Sue quilt blocks from an antique cutter quilt found in an attic. This quilt was hand appliqued and hand quilted in the 1930's and was used and well-loved. The quilt was found with several large holes, ragged edges, etc., but is still a piece of the past that can be salvaged to share with our future.

I have not washed the quilt, but have aired it out and used Febreeze to freshen up the musty odor. I have left the cleaning up to the new owner. A gentle hand wash soaking and lay flat to dry would probably be all it needed.

This Sunbonnet Sue is in a yellow for the hat, sleeve and shoe and a multi-colored plaid print in two shades of blue, cream, orange and yellow for the dress, which is all hand appliqued down in a black running stitch. The hat band is adorned with hand embroidery in a thin blue line with orange french knots and orange and blue twisted ties.

The background of the quilt block is an off-white unbleached muslin, but appears stained due to age, like it is naturally tea dyed. It really has a nice olde tyme patina that adds to the charm of this piece of the past. There are 7 to 8 stitches per inch in the hand quilting. The backing is also an unbleached muslin, that is less stained than the front. The edges of the quilt block are raw and unfinished and the block has very thin cotton batting that is bunchy in some places do to washing and age, but overall is fairly thin.

Great to make into a pillow, a tote bag or frame for display. This quilt block is just waiting to be repurposed into somthing new. Perfect for the shabby, romantic. cottage, primitive, farmhouse, cabin, lodge or country decor.

This is an antique vintage quilt block in very nice condition for its age. Keep in mind that this quilt block is old and cut from a previously used quilt. The fabric is aged, slightly stained and faded as mentioned above, but no holes, tears or rips. It definitely has the primitive look. Keep in mind computer monitors show colors differently.
