This is a small stoneware planter that measures 4.5" tall and 3.75" round at the rim. The base is about 2" round.

I threw this planter from a grey stoneware, and brushed a red clay slip on the outside. The pot was then fired to 2300 F in a gas kiln. The red clay slip is a local clay dug from outside State College, PA. I left some of the sand in the slip which gives a little texture to the surface of the pot. Due to the reduction atmosphere in the firing the brick red slip turned a nice toastie brownish red. I did not apply any slip on the inside.

I made this planter with the idea of cascading some small junipers, but any small plant will do well in this pot. Indoors or outdoors.

I incised some vertical grooves on the inside of the planter to help roots grow down instead of spiraling around the pot.

Planter is fully vitrified, and will withstand winter bonsai storage. However, wet dense soil left to freeze can split the pot.
