Though paper is probably the most important component, much more goes into a wonderful work of decoupage art. Here are a few other materials you might consider having at the ready for your decoupage project:
Decoupage surface: Most hard surfaces work splendidly for this craft. A flat piece of wood is a tried and true base for beginners. More experienced artisans can try their hand at decorating a tin container or a glass vase. Many artists even use decoupage paper for stylizing furniture such as table tops and lamp bases.
Adhesive: Decoupage glue secures your work firmly to its base.
Top coat: Use a glossy varnish to form a protective seal over your work and give it a layer of shimmer.
Waxed paper: Ideal for covering your table surface to keep the area protected from glue spatter.
Sandpaper: Fine-grain smooths out your finished project and gives it a lustrous sheen.
