"Much smaller than I thought but it should do the job - I may attach it to a large metal plate to keep it stable during use. It's machined from hexagonal bar stock. The top & bottom are machined smooth, the sides are rough, as received from the steel mill.
It arrived wearing a coating of oil to prevent rusting while traveling overseas. The oil STINKS! Reminds me of the awful stench of cosmoline, a heavy anti-rust coating from WWII.
I bathed the little bugger in cleaning solvent, then wrapped the block in a rag soaked in solvent and left it like that for about 2 weeks. The smell finally disappeared - mostly.
I tested the hardness with Japanese - Hardness Test Files, and discovered it's not hardened at all. It should be okay to straighten & swage tiny watch parts.
Good value for the cost."
