Choose from this selection of 19th, early 20th Century sewing thimbles. All are in excellent vintage and antique condition. The shapes are circular and round, decoration is in good original condition and there are no pinholes from use.
A) Fully hallmarked silver thimble with maker's mark H C & S. The thimble is hallmarked with the lion rampant denoting sterling silver, the wheat sheafs in a shield which is the city assay office mark for Chester and the year letter a for 1926. Also marked with the size number 15. This is a large thimble with no holes or damage. This has an engraved gallery with a classic daisy motif and a stepped out rim. Measures: 5/8 ths of an inch / 16mm across and 6/8 ths of an inch / 2 cm tall.

B) Fully hallmarked heavy gauge silver thimble with maker's mark J S & S for James Swann and son. This is a prolific Birmingham silversmiths which operated throughout the 20th Century. The thimble is hallmarked with the lion rampant denoting sterling silver, the anchor which is the city assay office mark for Birmingham and the year letter J for 1958. Also marked with the size number 6. This is a large thimble with no holes or damage Measures: 11/16ths of an inch / 17 mm across and 7/8ths of an inch / 2.2 cm tall.

C) Fully hallmarked Victorian silver thimble with maker's mark JF for James Fenton a maker primarily associated with arts and crafts jewellery. The thimble is hallmarked with the lion rampant denoting sterling silver, anchor which is the city assay office mark for Birmingham and the year lower case gothic letter b for 1876. Also marked with the size number 15. This is a large and long thimble with no holes or damage. This has an all over classic daisy motif and a plain banded rim. Measures: 9/16 ths of an inch / 16mm across and 11/16 ths of an inch / 2.2 cm tall.

D) Fully hallmarked Victorian silver thimble with maker's mark JF for James Fenton. The thimble is hallmarked with the lion rampant denoting sterling silver, the anchor which is the city assay office mark for Birmingham and the year letter p for 1889/90. This is a large thimble with no holes or damage Measures: 9/16ths of an inch / 16 mm across and 13/16ths of an 6/8 ths of an inch / 2 cm tall.

E) Fully hallmarked Edwardian heavy gauge silver thimble with maker's mark CH for Charles Horner. The thimble is hallmarked with the lion rampant denoting sterling silver, the wheat sheafs in a shield which is the city assay office mark for Chester and the year letter J for 1909. Also marked with the size number 6. This is a large thimble with no holes or damage. This has a classic dimpled thimble with a plain gallery and a reinforced facetted stepped out rim. Measures: 11/16 ths of an inch / 17mm across and 1 inch / 2.5 cm tall.

Also marked with the size number 15. This is a large thimble with no holes or damage. This has an engraved gallery with a classic daisy motif and a stepped out rim. Measures: 5/8 ths of an inch / 16mm across and 13/16 ths of an inch / 2.1 cm tall. This has been well used and has shaped to an oval rather than the circle shape of manufacture
