Antique Chinese Plate 万字 SWASTIKA Buddhist Hindu Religious Symbol Fence Pattern Bamboo Lotus Garden Schotel Dish Ming? Qing? *Free S&H

Classic pattern of Bamboo, Garden Rocks, Fence, Lotus? Interesting because of the SWASTIKA symbol featured on the fence.

Swastika symbols are included in Buddhist, Hindu & Native American culture and religions. Even Japan has used this symbol with regards to some of their temples and their street maps use this symbol to indicate Buddhist Temple locations. The funky looking thingy to the right with 5 holes in it...I believe is a "taihu stone" of grotesque shaped eroded limestone used in Chinese gardens. Overall, a nice old plate full of symbolism and probably dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.

SPECS - about 9”D x 3/4”H

CONDITION - EXCELLENT!
- no hairlines, cracks, crackle or signs of restoration...
WELL - bottom of pattern at 6 & 7 o'clock there's multiple sand and firing flaws, but smooth to the touch. At 10 o'clock there's a glaze pop...almost looks like a chip, but when looked at different angles and touched, it's a glaze frit/pop. The glaze is not white or off-white, it's got a blue tinge similar to tin-glaze of Delft pottery.
LIP - 3 classic floral groups, some frit/glaze pops, mostly felt and smooth.
RIM – multiple chips to the glaze at 1, 5, 6, 10 & 11 o'clock. Not really visible from front, but can be felt and viewed when holding the rim sideways or to eye-level. Not serious, but mentioned..this is not a perfect piece, damage is commensurate to the age. (frits!)
BASE - numerous frits/glaze pops...to me acceptable and indicative of authenticity of time period
FOOT - not glazed, exposing white colored clay, no issues
BASE LIP – there is a 1" frit/glaze pop showing 3 carbon particle flaws that was causative, see Pic 4

MY SUBJECTIVE GRADING GUIDE >

Outstanding - pristine, like new
Excellent - excellent as it's antique/vintage (minor issues)
Good - moderate issues
Fair - more than moderate issues, okay for display, but not a prized piece
Poor - major issues = a bargain deserving of continued existence

"Porcelain originated in China. Although proto-porcelain wares exist dating from the Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BC), by the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty period (206 BC – 220 AD), glazed ceramic wares had developed into porcelain. Porcelain manufactured during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) was exported to the Islamic world, where it was highly prized. Early porcelain of this type includes the tri-colour glazed porcelain, or sancai wares. There is no precise date to separate the production of proto-porcelain from that of porcelain. Porcelain items in the sense that we know them today could be found in the Tang Dynasty, and archaeological finds have pushed the dates back to as early as the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). By the Sui Dynasty (581–618 AD) and Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), porcelain was widely produced."
