Patchwork Stuffed Pumpkin PDF Sewing Pattern – Fabric Scrap Fall Décor Sewing Project

Bring a little handmade warmth to your home this season with the Sew with Sham Patchwork Stuffed Pumpkin PDF Sewing Pattern! 🎃🍂

This charming sewing project is designed for anyone who loves cozy handmade décor, beautiful fabric combinations, and finding creative ways to use the fabric scraps already sitting in their sewing room.

Using individual fabric panels, you can mix and match your favorite ginghams, florals, plaids, solids, seasonal prints, and treasured fabric scraps to create a completely unique stuffed pumpkin. Make yours warm and traditional with oranges, creams, and browns, create a soft cottage-inspired pumpkin with pastel florals, or combine several coordinating prints for a colorful patchwork look.

One of my favorite things about this project is that no two pumpkins have to look the same. Changing just a few fabrics can completely transform the finished piece, making this a lovely pattern to return to again and again.

I had so much fun making these pumpkins with my family, choosing fabrics together and watching each little pumpkin develop its own personality. That experience is part of what inspired me to turn the project into a pattern that other makers could enjoy too. It’s the kind of sewing project that feels creative and relaxing rather than overly complicated—and the finished pumpkin is something you can bring out and enjoy year after year.

🍂 A Fun Scrap-Friendly Sewing Project
Have a collection of fabric scraps that are too pretty to throw away?

This pattern gives you a wonderful opportunity to turn them into something special.

Because the pumpkin is constructed from separate fabric pieces, you can use one fabric throughout or combine several coordinating fabrics for a true patchwork effect. Try pairing a gingham with a floral and a warm solid, combining three different pastel florals, using pumpkin prints with burnt orange fabric, or creating a sophisticated pumpkin entirely from coordinating solids.

You can experiment with color, print, texture, and fabric combinations to make your pumpkin fit your own decorating style.

It’s also a fun way to use leftover pieces from previous sewing projects and give those little scraps a new purpose.

✂️ What You’ll Make
Using the included pattern and step-by-step instructions, you’ll create a soft, dimensional patchwork stuffed fabric pumpkin finished with decorative tufting and your choice of embellishments.

The construction starts with individual pumpkin pieces that are sewn together to form the pumpkin shape. Once assembled, the pumpkin is turned right side out, filled with Poly-fil, closed, and shaped using embroidery floss. The finishing details—such as a stem, leaf, ribbon, or twine—give each pumpkin its own handmade character.

Your finished pumpkin can look completely different depending on the fabrics and finishing details you choose.

🧵 Your Digital Pattern Includes
Your purchase includes the files you need to create your own patchwork pumpkin at home, including:
- Printable pumpkin sewing pattern/template
- Pumpkin leaf templates
- Step-by-step sewing instructions
- Photographs to help illustrate the construction process
- Guidance for assembling, stuffing, tufting, and decorating your pumpkin

The sewing process takes you through preparing and cutting your fabrics, joining the pumpkin pieces, assembling the pumpkin halves, turning and stuffing the pumpkin, closing the opening, adding the characteristic pumpkin shaping with embroidery floss, and finishing it with decorative details.
🎃 CUT → SEW → TURN → STUFF → TUFT → DECORATE
The process is broken down into manageable stages so you can enjoy watching a pile of fabric pieces gradually turn into a finished handmade pumpkin.

After cutting your pumpkin pieces, you’ll sew them together with right sides facing. The pieces are gradually joined to form the pumpkin, leaving an opening so the project can be turned and stuffed.
Once your pumpkin has been filled and closed, embroidery floss is wrapped around the pumpkin to create the characteristic tufted pumpkin sections. Then comes the especially fun part—decorating it!
Add a wooden stem, handmade stem, felt leaf, ribbon, twine, or other embellishments that complement your chosen fabrics.

🍁 Make It Your Own
This pattern is especially fun if you enjoy experimenting with fabric combinations.
Try:
Rustic Farmhouse: gingham + flannel + warm neutral solids
Cottage Floral: three coordinating floral prints
Classic Autumn: pumpkin print + burnt orange + cream
Modern Neutral: cream + taupe + olive solids
Colorful Patchwork: coordinating scraps from your fabric stash
Soft & Romantic: dusty pink + sage + small florals
These are simply ideas—the finished design is completely up to you.
You could make several pumpkins in coordinating fabrics and display them together as a collection, or make each one completely different.

🏡 Handmade Fall Decorating
Once finished, your fabric pumpkin can become part of your seasonal décor year after year.
Style your pumpkins on a mantel, bookshelf, entryway table, dining table, tiered tray, sideboard, sewing-room shelf, or fall centerpiece. Make several in different coordinating fabrics and group them together for an especially cozy handmade display.
They can also make thoughtful handmade gifts for friends, family members, teachers, hosts, and anyone who appreciates handcrafted seasonal décor.
Because you choose the fabric yourself, you can easily coordinate the pumpkin with the recipient’s home or favorite colors.

❤️ A Project You Can Make Again and Again
This isn’t a pattern that has to be used only once.
Once you understand the construction, it becomes a wonderful project for experimenting with different fabrics from your stash. One pumpkin might be traditional and autumnal, the next soft and floral, and another completely modern and neutral.
You can even make a collection over time from scraps left over from other meaningful sewing projects.
That’s part of the charm of patchwork sewing—the fabrics themselves can become part of the story of the finished piece.

🪡 Suggested Materials
For this project, you’ll need basic sewing supplies along with your chosen fabrics and stuffing. The manual calls for supplies such as fabric scraps, Poly-fil, embroidery floss, felt for the leaf, ribbon, and a wooden stem, along with your usual sewing tools.
Choose fabrics that coordinate with one another while still providing enough contrast for the individual pumpkin panels to stand out.
Small-scale florals, gingham, checks, subtle seasonal prints, and textured-looking solids work especially beautifully for this project.

🌿 A Lovely Seasonal Sewing Project
Whether you’re sewing your first handmade fall decoration or you already have a basket overflowing with fabric scraps, this project is meant to be creative, enjoyable, and customizable.
Put on some music, pull out your favorite fabrics, and spend an afternoon sewing something cozy for your home.
And if you make more than one, don’t be surprised if choosing fabric combinations becomes just as much fun as sewing the pumpkins themselves!

🧡 From Sew with Sham

I hope this pattern gives you an excuse to dig through your fabric collection, rediscover some favorite scraps, and turn them into something you’ll be excited to display.
For me, sewing is about more than simply finishing a project. Some of the best parts are choosing the fabrics, sitting down at the sewing machine, creating alongside the people we love, and seeing something beautiful slowly take shape in our hands.
I hope your patchwork pumpkins bring that same feeling to your sewing space and a little extra handmade warmth to your home.
Happy sewing! 🧵🎃
