Custom and personalized orders

We do offer personalized cartouche pendants. Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns. Once your order is placed, please contact us within 2 days for cancelations or changes to personalization.

Gift wrapping and packaging

We offer gift wrapping with unique Egyptian design wrapping paper, hieroglyphic boxes and gold pyramid boxes (for jewelry).

We cannot offer refunds due to USPS package delays. FedEx is much more reliable if you need your package to arrive by a certain time. Please select expedited shipping at checkout or contact us for expedited options to ensure timely package deliveries.

Our cartouches are solid gold and not gold plated! What is the difference between 14k & 18k Gold? The difference is this: pure gold is 24 karat, but it is too soft to work with, so silver and other metals are mixed in to make jewelry. 18k gold has 75% gold content; 14k has just under 60%. The look and feel of 14k & 18k pendants are the same, but 14k is less pure gold, and it costs about 20% less.

I/E/Y Cartouche Information

The hieroglyphic language is a phonetic language so there are three symbols that can be used for I/E/Y interchangeably. The artist chooses the symbol that will look best for your cartouche.

Translate a name or initials into ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs in this timeless Sterling Silver pendant. Your traditional pendant will be custom-made, by hand, in the ancient bazaar of Khan el Khalili in the heart of Cairo, Egypt. There are two stamps from the Egyptian government on the pendant, certifying its silver content. These stamps resemble a "dent," and the listing photos do not show this well. If you have concerns about the government stamp, please contact us before ordering.

Please enter your name into the personalization box and choose a size based on the number of letters. For names 2-3 letters long, the pendant will be 1.5 inches, for 4-5 letters, 1.75 inches, and for 6-7 letters, 2 inches, for 8-9 letters, 2.25 inches. The personalization is on one side only! Please find our double-sided cartouches for pendants with personalization on both sides of the pendant. Sizes are approximate and vary slightly depending on your personalization.

So what exactly is a cartouche?
A cartouche is the nameplate or seal that was used by ancient Egyptian royalty as a powerful amulet of protection for all eternity. The oval shape is encircled by a rope, tied in a knot at the bottom, and symbolizes 'all that the sun encompasses'.
The earliest examples of cartouches date back to the Second Dynasty of Egypt, but their common usage started under Pharaoh Sneferu during the Fourth Dynasty. The ancient Egyptian word for cartouche was "shenu". Fun fact: When Napoleon was in Egypt in the 1800's he thought that the shen symbol looked like a bullet cartridge, and referred to them as 'cartouches', the French word for cartridges.
