A wedding program outlines the events to take place during a wedding ceremony and is typically handed out to guests before the wedding.

You can create programs in a number of configurations, such as a bi-fold or a single-piece pamphlet—and may include an insert with additional information if the ceremony calls for it. Many couples opt to print their wedding programs on card stock or heavy stock paper.

Wedding program templates for your ceremony take most of the guesswork out of creating the program. There are many options for wedding program templates available on Etsy. Graphic designers on Etsy create them in many different styles to suit your wedding colors and decor. When you find a template you like, you can easily download it and customize it with your own text for easy printing

Many electronic wedding program templates enable you to select the font and letter size you'd like to see printed on your programs. They also offer a preview of each page, so you'll know exactly what to expect before you even begin printing.

The main purpose of a wedding program is to inform guests of the wedding ceremony timeline, often including pre- and post-ceremony activities. Many shops on Etsy sell printable templates for wedding programs with room to include the following information:

  • Name of the couple: Most often posted at the top of the program, in large—and often ornate—letters, the names of the spouses-to-be may or may not include their last names.
  • Wedding date and location: While programs are almost always handed out on the day and at the location of the event, this information is there as a reminder to guests who like to keep their wedding programs as a keepsake.
  • The wedding party: Consider including the names of the members of the wedding party—maid of honor, best man, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer—as well as the officiant and parents of the couple.
  • Pre-ceremony activities: You may want to include a time for signing the guest book and guest seating—and perhaps conduct a guest meet-and-greet before the ceremony.
  • Sequence of ceremony proceedings: Wedding programs often list the events to take place during the ceremony, such as the processional, officiant speech, readings, songs, exchange of vows, exchange of wedding rings, and recessional.
  • Post-ceremony celebration: It's helpful to list the location of the wedding reception on the program so guests know where to go and when to be there after the bride and groom drive away. You could also include a map or an agenda of celebration events, like the first dance or send-offs, as well as any thank yous or special requests you might make of attendees.
