Offering brooms and besoms for weddings and handfastings, witch's ceremonial brooms, brooms for cleaning and even brooms for flying, from the Scheumack Broom Company, located in beautiful Eugene, Oregon.
My name is Samantha (aka Broomchick), one of 8members of the Scheumack Broom Company. When I first moved to Eugene, in 1997, I happened upon this small group of broom makers and I began working for the company as a leather worker, decorating walking sticks, staffs and bellows. Throughout the years I have also done a fair amount of broom sewing, broom finishing and other odds and ends around the broom shop, but I really found my niche when I began selling our products at craft shows and online.
In 2008 I started this ETSY page hoping that the online sales would help bring in some money for the crew and myself during the hard winter months, and I found that this was the best way I could continue to be a part the broom shop. Using my impeccable customer service, computer, photography, and graphic design skills to help show off these amazing brooms.
I am the one who picks them, packs them and ships them out to you, but the real talent is our fearless leader, Thurman Sceumack, who started this business more than 30 years ago. These brooms are his designs and he is the one who taught our crew about the brooms and traditions that go along with them.
We currently have 5 apprentice broom makers at our shop and these guys select your broom sticks, mix the colors and create each unique piece, following their artistic vision along with using the ancient tools and techniques that were taught to them by our broom masterThurman.
Helping the the office and with shipping duties, we have Thurman's daughter-in-law, Dana, who has worked on and off at the broom shop for over 25 years. She and I work together to make sure all the orders run smoothly and the shipping happens efficiently.
When I'm not running the Broomchick ETSY site, I also enjoy singing rock-n-roll with my band, blowing glass, and hanging out at the coast with my partner, David.
