During the Great Depression, there was a phenomenon in which lipstick purchases soared... this was surprising due to the severe lack of money. However; it makes perfect sense for a person to be able to purchase a nominally priced item that makes his/her spirits soar. I see this same reality in the sale of my pillows in my shop, Fanny Elizabeth Design on Etsy... I call this the "Pillow Factor" because, for a small amount of money, a person can order a pillow from one of many vendors on Etsy or through other avenues and bring a splash of color, a statement, or just a little comfort into their lives... How great is that?
I am very grateful for the opportunity that Etsy has provided for me to do just that... I am an artist/designer who loves to create beautiful things from simple, everyday items. Originally, I made a couple of pillows to sell at a craft show where I was doing charcoal portraits. I became intrigued with pillows... I googled them, searched the internet, including Etsy and checked them out everywhere I could. I was especially enamored with the very high end ones, that were a bit out of my price range. That's when I decided to create a line of interesting, artistic and sometimes whimsical pillows that everyone could afford...
Etsy has been a lifesaver for many families, not only for providing a venue that reaches across all boundaries, physically and culturally, but also because it allows individuals with limited resources to earn an income through the marketing of handmade and vintage products. Thank you Etsy founders and staff:)
BTW, I do still love to draw, paint and create works of art, as well as, create floral arrangements and wreaths from my time spent as a floral designer. And last, but not least, I can't resist a search for "junk treasures" anytime I get a chance, so there's a little bit of everything in my shop... thanks for dropping in...
