I'm Rebecca, a lifelong Connecticut-ian (it's on the east coast of the US), child of the 90's, style undetermined. Shapes, colors and words are strong influences in my work. I also like detail and fitting things together. According to my mom, one of my first forays into art as a small child, was tapping a green crayon on paper and when asked what I was doing I said, "Drawin' broccoli dots."
I've been creative my whole life. I'm an experimenter of techniques, I'll try anything. My current favorites woodburning and macrame. I learned initially from my mom, when I wanted to create necklace to go with an outfit I was making for a sewing contest (I still have that ensemble). More recently, I developed my own way to create modern shapes with macrame. Woodburning I picked up on my own. I like how substantial the wood is and having the ability to leave my own mark on it.
Every elpy creative piece is formulated and handcrafted by me (with occasional help from my dad and his power tools) in the smoke-free house I live in with my family. Since everything is handmade, sometimes the item(s) you receive may differ slightly from the picture.
The name 'elpy' comes from my parents calling me 'LP' for 'little person' while my mom was carrying me. When I started selling my work I wanted a name for the business that was my name...but my name is not uncommon. So I took the name they used to call me and spelled it out.
