Ich glaube, ich bin schon mein ganzes Leben lang ein Hobbyist der 80er. Als Kind habe ich Comicfiguren wie Spider-Man, die Ninja Turtles, Transformers und so weiter gezeichnet und skizziert. Ich habe auch Spielzeug gesammelt und Reihen wie G.I. Joe, Transformers und Star Wars geliebt. Damals habe ich gerne gebastelt, indem ich Dinge auseinandergenommen und wieder zusammengebaut habe. Ich habe mich immer als künstlerisch und technisch begabt gesehen; ich hatte den Drang zu erschaffen, wusste aber nie so recht, wie.
Jahre später entdeckte ich das Cosplay für mich. Einige von euch haben mich vielleicht in einem Funny-Or-Die-Video von 2009 gesehen, „The Ballad of G.I. Joe“ – ich war Snake Eyes (das Kostüm habe ich selbst gemacht – ich habe es zwar nicht genäht, aber einen Großteil der Montage übernommen und das Visier mit der Hilfe eines Freundes aus einem Papierkorb und ein paar Teilen aus dem Baumarkt gebaut). Seitdem ist das letzte Mal Cosplay angesagt, aber die 80er-Jahre-Nostalgie und das kreative Gestalten haben mich immer noch gepackt.
Mein Mitbewohner, auch bekannt als der (ehemals) arbeitslose Skeletor, brachte mir MOTU Origins näher, und ich war sofort begeistert. Die Anpassungsmöglichkeiten gefielen mir, da ich sie bereits von einer anderen Spielzeugreihe namens Xevoz kannte. Kurz zuvor hatte ich mir einen 3D-Drucker zugelegt, aber ich kam einfach nicht damit zurecht. Es dauerte Jahre, bis ich es endlich kapierte, bis ich durch Plattformen wie Cults 3D, die Modelle zum Drucken präsentierten, die richtige Motivation fand. Nachdem ich das Drucken verstanden hatte, wollte ich lernen, meine eigenen Designs zu erstellen – und damit sind wir heute hier.
Das war also die Kurzfassung, wie das Ganze für mich Realität wurde. I guess I've been a 80's hobbyist my whole life. When I was young, I used to draw and sketch comic book characters like Spider-Man, the Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and so on. I grew up collecting toys as well, enjoying lines like G.I. Joe, Transformers, Star Wars. Back then, I used to enjoy tinkering by taking things apart, putting them back together. I always figured I was both artistic and an engineer; I had the passion to create, but never really knew how.
Years later, I got into cosplay. Some of you might have seen me in a Funny Or Die video back around 2009 named the Ballad of G.I. Joe - I was the Snake Eyes in the video (costume made by me - I mean, I didn't sew it, but I did a lot of the assembly and constructed the visor with the help of a friend using a waste basket and some parts from a hardware store). It's been years since I did any cosplay, but I still had the interest of 80's nostalgia and creating.
My roommate, also known as the (once known) Unemployed Skeletor, introduced me to MOTU Origins and I was hooked almost instantly. I enjoyed the customization which was familiar to me from another toy line called Xevoz. A little before then I gained a 3D Printer, but couldn't figure out for the life of me how to use it. It took me years to figure this out until the right motivation came along through repository sites like Cults 3D showcased pieces that I could actually print. Once I figured out printing, I then wanted to learn how to make my own designs, which brings us to today.
