Dancing With Words And Art
When I was young, I knew that my dad wanted me to be an artist, just like his grandmother, whom he adored.
I loved art but first I loved dance. With three kids in tow I went off to college at the age of 27 and got a masters in dance choreography from UCLA.
Then the “real world” took over and I headed into the land of working as a financial planner. Although I enjoyed the work, I became more and more driven by my desire to do the next thing I wanted to do in life - write.
So I did. I have written eight books and working on the ninth.
I love the dance of words on a page, and how much like choreography writing has become for me.
Then art returned into my life. I loved how I could do anything I wanted to do with colors and shapes within a digital universe using Illustrator.
It was an easy transition to taking words I had written and having them dance with the illustrations. I think it makes the words more visible - and hopefully more permanent.
Although my dad passed away before this dance of words and art took place, I am sure he is smiling down on the end result of his many hours of carting me off to art classes, and waiting for me in the car - reading of course, he loved words too!
