Branka: A Tiny Gate to the Art and History of Czech Glass Buttons.
"Welcome to Branka – Where History Meets Artistry
Branka means ""little gate"" in Czech. I invite you to step through this small gate and discover the fairytale beauty of the Czech Republic through our curated collection of vintage glass buttons. We don't just sell buttons; we deliver unique pieces of history that speak to those who value quality, soul, and one-of-a-kind design.
From Childhood Collector to a New Life in Czechia
I have always been a lover of all things shiny. As a child, I filled my school bag with stickers, colored pens, and tiny notebooks—treasures that made my heart leap. Though I once dreamt of becoming an interior designer, my path led me to a career in human resources at a major manufacturer. Life took a beautiful turn when I met my husband, moved to his homeland of the Czech Republic in 2018, and began a new chapter.
The 100-Year-Old Discovery
My obsession began at a local flea market. Among the cluttered relics of the past, I found a single, icy glass button. When the shop owner told me it was 100 years old, I was mesmerized. I realized that glass buttons are not just functional items; they are delicate, beautiful works of art that survived decades of history. I was captivated, and my hobby of collecting soon turned into a deep study of their heritage.
Beyond Craft: Buttons as Works of Art
It frustrated me to see these historical treasures sold online as cheap, bulk craft materials. I founded Branka to change that narrative. These antique glass buttons have a raw, honest appeal—different from the polished elegance of French silverware or English ceramics. They have survived wars and revolutions, yet they fit perfectly into a modern room and a contemporary lifestyle.
Our Promise
At Branka, we carefully select items that you won't find anywhere else. We believe that true luxury lies in the story behind an object. I hope you find something here that touches your sensibilities and adds a touch of Czech history to your life.
Welcome to our little gate. Let the magic begin."
