I’ve always been fascinated by the way that colored glass catches and reflects the light.
Mi primer amor son las vidrieras y la mayoría de mis vidrieras imitan la naturaleza de alguna manera. También trabajo con vidrio fundido en horno. Hago una amplia variedad de artículos que son todos únicos en su tipo, pero tienen una cosa en común; son divertidos de hacer. Siendo del tipo curioso, siempre estoy jugando con algún nuevo procedimiento o tipo de arte en vidrio. Hago muchos adornos caprichosos de vidrio pequeño teñido y fundido y atrapasoles porque son muy divertidos, especialmente muñecos de nieve.
Siempre me ha encantado el vidrio de colores en cualquier forma: botellas, atrapasoles, jarrones, etc. Hace unos nueve años tuve la oportunidad de tomar una clase en el estilo Tiffany de vitrales - método de construcción de lámina de cobre. Mi esposo me animó y fue y me compró todas las herramientas (incluyendo curitas). De repente me di cuenta de que ahora podía hacer los tipos de piezas de vidrio que había codiciado pero que no podía pagar. Terminé tomando 3 clases de vitrales y 2 clases de vidrio fundido. Mi esposo convirtió parte del garaje en un estudio para mí y me compró un horno.
A medida que practicaba y aprendía mi oficio, les di a todos los que conocía adornos y piezas pequeñas. Me volví cada vez más rápido y cada vez más obsesionado y las piezas terminadas comenzaron a acumularse en la casa y me di cuenta de que iba a tener que comenzar a vender parte de ella para financiar mi adicción al vidrio. My first love is stained glass and most of my stained glass pieces mimic nature in some way. I also work with kiln fused glass. I make a wide variety of items that are all one of a kind, but have one thing in common; they are fun to make. Being the curious type I am always tinkering with some new procedure or type of glass art. I make a lot of whimsical small stained and fused glass ornaments and sun catchers because they are so much fun, especially snowmen.
I've always loved colored glass in any form: bottles, sun catchers, vases, etc. About nine years ago I got the opportunity to take a class in the Tiffany style of stained glass - copper foil construction method. My husband encouraged me and went and bought me all the tools (including band aids). Suddenly I realized that I could now make the types of glass pieces I had coveted but couldn’t afford. I ended up taking 3 stained glass classes and 2 fused glass classes. My husband turned part of the garage into a studio for me and bought me a kiln.
As I practiced and learned my craft I gave everyone I knew ornaments and small pieces. I got faster and faster and more and more obsessed and the finished pieces started piling up around the house and I realized I was going to have to start selling some of it in order to fund my glass addiction. My best friend, Sher, bought a hummingbird piece I had done and told me that I was now officially an artist. I did a couple of local festivals and was gratified that people bought from me. I continued studying and learning and creating and improving my skills.I retired from teaching in May of 2015 and decided to get serious about my art. I opened an online store and signed up for several festivals and here we are.
