In the beginning...
Cuando mi hija Lauren tenía unos 4 años (1999), empezamos a hacer pulseras elásticas. ¡La diversión se convirtió en obsesión cuando descubrí las piedras preciosas mientras buscaba cuentas de poni! Ahora estamos diseñando nuestros propios accesorios. Sin embargo, entre hacer las pulseras elásticas y diseñar nuestros propios accesorios, sucedieron muchas cosas.
En 2003, abrí una tienda en línea en rtejewelry. Después de que varios clientes me preguntaran sobre los hallazgos artesanales que uso en mis joyas, decidí empezar a vender algunos de ellos en línea. Entonces descubrí Etsy y ¡nuestras vidas cambiaron por completo! Para mejor. Inicialmente, nuestros hallazgos artesanales eran hechos por otros artistas hasta que alrededor de 2007, cuando mi esposo regresó a la escuela para aprender sobre el oficio de la joyería. Se convirtió en joyero de banco, aprendiendo soldadura y fabricación. Aprendí a tallar cera y desde entonces he creado más de 1100 de los hallazgos que vendemos. Trabajamos con un socio de producción (una pequeña empresa familiar) que se especializa en fundición a la cera perdida. Creamos todos nuestros propios diseños y terminamos a mano cada pieza. Nuestras piezas se crean esculpiendo a mano modelos de cera y luego se hace un molde para la producción. Estamos muy contentos con nuestros socios de producción y estamos apoyando a otro negocio artesanal aquí en los EE. UU. También utilizan plata esterlina reciclada/recuperada... lo que contribuye a la sostenibilidad.
When my daughter, Lauren was about 4 years old (1999), She and I started making stretch bracelets. The fun turned into an obsession once I discovered gemstones while in search of pony beads! Here we are now designing our own findings. However, a lot happened in between making stretch bracelets and designing our own findings.
In 2003, I opened an online store at rtejewelry. After having several customers ask about the artisan findings that I use in my jewelry I decided to start selling some of them online. Then I discovered Etsy and our whole lives changed! For the better. Initially our handcrafted findings were made by several other artists until around 2007 when my husband went back to school to learn about the jewelry trade. He became a bench jeweler learning soldering & fabrication. I learned how to carve wax and have since created over 1100 of the findings that we sell. We utilize a production partner (a small family owned business) that specializes in lost wax casting. We create all of our own designs and hand finishing of each piece. Our pieces are created by hand sculpting wax models and then a mold is made for production. We are very happy with our production partners and we are supporting another handmade business here in the U.S. They also use recycled/reclaimed sterling silver...adding sustainability.
