Luis Cordero ist ein Grafiker, der in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, geboren wurde und derzeit in Yonkers, NY, lebt. Er war im Laufe der Jahre sehr aktiv in der puertoricanischen Gemeinschaft.
Er und einige andere Künstler gründeten das puerto-ricanische Institut für die Entwicklung der Künste, P.R.I.D.A., das sich als eine der wenigen Organisationen auszeichnet, die sich für die Rechte der puertoricanischen Künstler einsetzen.
Seit 2006 ist er Mitglied des Board of Directors des Comite Noviembre und hat die National Puerto Rican Artisan Fair des Comite Noviembre, die größte puerto-ricanische Handwerkermesse außerhalb von Puerto Rico und die größte in den USA, produziert und koordiniert.
Meine Inspiration...
Ich bin inspiriert, durch den Reichtum meiner Kultur zu schaffen. Wir können auf unsere afrikanischen Wurzeln zurückgreifen, um Tänze und Rhythmen zu schaffen, die Menschen von ihren Sitzen in eine andere Welt bringen können. Wir können auf unsere spanischen/europäischen Wurzeln zurückgreifen, um Literatur zu schaffen, die die Welt inspiriert. Wir können auf unsere einheimischen Wurzeln zurückgreifen, um Grafiken zu erstellen, die noch nie zuvor gesehen wurden. Es erstaunt mich, wenn ich daran denke, was für eine kleine Insel Puerto Rico ist, mit so wenigen Menschen, aber unsere Künstler haben Kunst geschaffen, die Seite an Seite mit den Besten der Welt stehen kann!

Luis Cordero is a graphic artist born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and currently residing in Yonkers, NY. He has been very active in the Puerto Rican community over the years.
He and several other artists founded the Puerto Rican Institute for the Development of the Arts, P.R.I.D.A. which has distinguished itself as one of the few organizations advocating for the rights of the Puerto Rican artists.
Since 2006 he has been on the Board of Directors of Comite Noviembre and has produced and coordinated Comite Noviembre's National Puerto Rican Artisan Fair, the largest Puerto Rican artisan fair outside of Puerto Rico and the largest in the US.
My inspiration...
I am inspired to create by the richness of my culture. We can draw on our African roots to create dances and rhythms that can move people out of their seats and into another world. We can draw on our Spanish/European roots to create literature to inspire the world. We can draw on our Native roots to create graphics that had never been seen before. It amazes me when I think of what a small island Puerto Rico is, with so few people yet our artists have created art that can stand side by side with the best in the world!
