Honouring your vessel
I started wearing African waist beads over 1 year ago, after going through a period of feeling disconnected from my physical body.
When I tied my first waist beads, it felt very special to me, as if I was finally seeing my body as a part of me. I realised what a miracle it is that this vessel was given to me to experience life through, and I started to truly appreciate who I am.
Apart from making me feel grounded in my own body, these first waist beads sparked a flame of creativity inside of me and I suddenly wanted to create more waist beads.
Waist beads have a long history in West African countries, worn by women to symbolise sensuality, for spiritual practise, fertility and femininity. Different colours can be worn for different purposes, i.e. black is associated with protection. Today, women everywhere use waist beads for aesthetic and practical purposes as well.
Every person's journey is unique, and even more so since all of our bodies are so different, but I hope that your journey is made that bit more special, joyful, sensual, confident, creative, peaceful with these waist beads.
