Court Jester Press lleva el nombre de mi cumpleaños. Nací el primero de abril. A lo largo de los años me he identificado con tontos, bufones y embaucadores. Especialmente los tontos de Shakespeare, El tonto del Tarot y las historias de Coyote. Un aspecto inevitable de mi personalidad, he abrazado mi derecho de nacimiento y he nombrado tanto mi prensa como mi tienda para el tonto natural que soy. Otro gran aspecto de mi vida es que soy disléxico. Sin diagnosticar hasta que tenía treinta años, me di cuenta de que era una de las razones por las que me atraían el arte visual y el diseño. Aunque mi dislexia afecta mi percepción visual, es un activo a la hora de diseñar y crear, a diferencia de ser un pasivo a la hora de procesar el lenguaje escrito y hablado. Siendo un Aries obstinado, insisto en leer y escribir de todos modos, a pesar de que ambos me toman más tiempo de lo "normal".
Stephen Stanley se graduó del Instituto de Arte de Kansas City en 1973 con un BFA en diseño gráfico. Después de una carrera galardonada en San Francisco, se mudó al Eugene Oregon, donde se retiró de su activo negocio de diseño gráfico. Ahora es grabador, ilustrador y escritor. Court Jester Press is named for my birthday. I was born on April First. Over the years I’ve identified with fools, jesters and tricksters. Especially Shakespearean fools, The Fool of the Tarot, and Coyote stories. An unavoidable aspect of my personality, I’ve embraced my birthright and named both my press and store for the natural born fool that I am. Another big aspect of my life is that I’m dyslexic. Undiagnosed until I was in my thirties, I came to realize it was one reason why I was drawn to visual art and design. Although my dyslexia effects my visual perception, it is an asset when designing and creating, unlike being a liability when processing written and spoken language. Being a stubborn Aries, I insist on reading and writing anyway, even though both take me more time than “normal.”
Stephen Stanley graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1973 with a BFA in graphic design. After an award winning career in San Francisco he moved the Eugene Oregon where he has retired from his active graphic design business. He is now a printmaker, illustrator and writer.
