Feet on Stairs - A Hexagon Boutique
My New England mother covered me under hexagon patchwork quilts all of my childhood. I remember as a child waking from a nap tracing with my finger the patterns and shapes, mesmerized by all the tiny stitches and different fabrics. When I asked her where the quilts came from she told me they were wedding gifts for her and my father when they first arrived in New Hampshire to start their new married life. I couldn't help envisioning the quilting bee set up by the elderly church ladies, which they probably were, sitting in their circle stitching these quilts as they shared their stories of their lives.
To this day I am always drawn to the hexagon, patchwork blanket, whether it be quilted or crocheted. It's simplicity, yet intricate all in the same breath. In my eyes the pattern and shape expresses care, kind hope and love.
The ladies in New Hampshire shared that with my mother all those years ago and their message has been passed down to me. I would love to opportunity to pass on this same care, kind hope and love to you through my hand crocheted hexagon patchwork blankets.
Oh, and the shop name, where did it come from? It's part of a line from my favorite poem entitled Late Spring by WS Merwin.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my shop and purchase a little piece of warmth and comfort.
Sincerely,
Scilla
