La storia inizia 20 anni fa, con una giovane coppia e la voglia di avventura!
Pochi giorni dopo esserci conosciuti, avevamo prenotato il nostro primo viaggio, un viaggio spontaneo e low cost in Marocco. Abbiamo trascorso 10 giorni con 50 sterline a testa, dormendo sui tetti e sulle dune di sabbia, e viaggiando con un budget limitato!
Avevamo un piano: inseguire il sole!
Facendo un doppio lavoro e risparmiando tutto quello che potevamo, abbiamo racimolato abbastanza soldi per trascorrere l'inverno in India. Con l'obiettivo di riportare a casa una piccola collezione di tesori da vendere ai festival estivi.
Abbiamo trascorso i nostri mesi in India realizzando gioielli sulla spiaggia, imparando tecniche come la lavorazione del cuoio, l'avvolgimento del filo metallico e il macramè dai viaggiatori nomadi che abbiamo incontrato lungo il cammino. Abbiamo acquistato perline dai Baba, ritagli di cuoio dai calzolai di strada e interessanti ninnoli da mercati e bazar.
Lentamente la nostra collezione ha iniziato a formarsi. Tornati nel Regno Unito, la nostra missione era quella di partecipare a quanti più festival possibile, con qualsiasi mezzo necessario! Facevamo volontariato per 8 ore lavando pentole nei caffè dei festival e, appena finito il turno, correvamo nei campi con la nostra piccola tavoletta per gioielli fatta in casa e la coperta, per vendere le nostre creazioni alle adorabili persone di passaggio. In qualche modo ha funzionato e, risparmiando con cura e lavorando sodo, abbiamo guadagnato abbastanza soldi per un biglietto di andata e ritorno per l'India.
La nostra piccola bancarella di coperte crebbe e dopo un paio d'anni riuscimmo ad acquistare un tendone e ad assicurarci spazi ufficiali per il festival. In India iniziammo a contattare argentieri e sarti per realizzare i nostri modelli in piccole serie, e scoprimmo il mondo dei mercati tessili di Nuova Delhi e dei commercianti di pietre preziose di Jaipur.
La nostra storia era iniziata.
Facciamo un salto in avanti di 10 anni ed eccoci qui!
Forage è ora una grande e affermata boutique per festival, presente in alcuni dei principali festival del Regno Unito. Siamo rinomati per i nostri prodotti unici e di alta qualità, venduti nella nostra boutique pop-up splendidamente decorata. Con una clientela affezionata che ama i nostri prodotti, una bancarella pluripremiata al mercatino di Natale e un negozio online in crescita, le cose non potrebbero essere più diverse per quella giovane coppia.
Continuiamo con lo stile di vita nomade: trascorriamo l'inverno in India, lavoriamo a nuove collezioni con il nostro fantastico team di sarti e artigiani e visitiamo i festival in estate.
La nostra bambina di 3 anni si unisce a noi nelle nostre avventure e adora ogni secondo di queste avventure!
La nostra rete di produttori in India è particolarmente importante per noi: nel corso degli anni abbiamo visto crescere le nostre attività e le nostre famiglie e ora abbiamo non solo solidi rapporti di lavoro, ma anche solide amicizie con le persone che realizzano i nostri prodotti.
Nel 2014 Forage ha ricevuto il Glastonbury Festival Green Traders Award come commerciante etico dell'anno! Abbiamo un progetto ben avviato nel nord dell'India, con donne che lavorano a maglia i nostri cappelli, e stiamo etichettando tutti i nostri prodotti con foto e dettagli dei produttori coinvolti nella loro produzione.
Quindi, cosa ci riserva il prossimo capitolo? Beh, con il nostro secondo bambino che nascerà tra poche settimane e il desiderio crescente di nidificare nella nostra nuova casa a Bristol, non ci resta che aspettare e vedere.
Ma qualcosa ci dice che l'avventura è appena iniziata!

The story started 20 years ago, with a young couple, and a thirst for adventure!
Within days of hooking up we had booked our first trip, a spontaneous , low budget trip to Morocco. We did 10 days on £50 each, sleeping on roof tops and sand dunes, and and travelling on a shoestring!
We had our plan - to chase the sun!
Working double jobs and saving all we could, we scraped together enough money to spend the winter in India. With an aim to bring back a small collection of treasures which we would try to sell at festivals in the summer.
We spent our few months in india making jewellery on the beach, learning skills such as leather work, wire wrapping and macrame from the nomadic travellers we met on our way. We bought beads from the Babas, leather scraps from street cobblers , and interesting trinkets from markets and bazaars.
Slowly our collection started to form. Back in the UK our mission was to get to as many festivals as we could - by any means necessary! We would volunteer with 8 hours of pot-wash in festival cafes, and as soon as shift had finished run into the festival fields with our little home made jewellery board and blanket, and sell our creations to the lovely people passing by. Somehow it worked, and through careful saving and a lot of hard work we made enough for a return ticket to India.
Our little blanket stall grew, and after a couple of years we were able to buy a marquee and secure official festival pitches. In India we started to approach silver smiths and tailors to make our designs in small batches, and discovered the world of the New Delhi textile markets and Jaipur gemstone dealers.
Our story had begun.
Fast forward 10 years and here we are!
Forage is now a large and well established festival boutique with a presence at some of the UK's top festivals. We have a reputation for unique, high quality products, sold in our exquisitely decorated pop up boutique. With a loyal customer base who love our products, an award winning Christmas Market stall, and a growing web store, things couldn't look more different for that young couple.
We continue the nomadic lifestyle; wintering in India, working on new collections with our amazing team of tailors and artisans, and touring the festivals in the summer.
Our 3 year old daughter joins us on our adventures and loves every second of it!
Our network of makers in India is especially important to us, over the years we have watched each others businesses and families grow and now have not only strong working relationships, but firm friendships with the people who make our products.
in 2014 Forage was awarded the Glastonbury Festival Green Traders Award for Ethical Trader of the Year! We have a well establishes women's project in Northern India who finger knit our hats, and we are in the process of labelling all of our products with photos and details of the makers involved in their production.
So what is in store for the next chapter? Well, with our second baby due in just a few weeks, and the growing urge to nest in our new home in Bristol , we'll just have to wait and see.
But something tells us the adventure is just beginning!
