Gallery Berkemeyer: Honoring Moroccan Culture and Hardworking Women of the Atlas Mountains
As a young man, Steve had always been fascinated by the vibrant colors and intricate designs of Moroccan rugs. He dreamed of one day owning a shop that would showcase the beauty and tradition of these rugs to the world.
Years later, Steve finally had the opportunity to turn his dream into a reality. He traveled to Morocco and spent several months living with a family in the Atlas Mountains, learning the art of rug weaving and gaining a deeper appreciation for the Moroccan culture.
During his time in the mountains, Steve was struck by the dedication and hard work of the women who wove the rugs by hand. They worked tirelessly day in and day out, often while balancing the demands of family and household responsibilities.
Steve was deeply moved by their strength and perseverance, and made it his mission to create a shop that would not only showcase the beauty of Moroccan rugs, but also honor the hardworking women who create them.
Thus, Gallery Berkemeyer was born. Steve carefully selected each rug for its unique design and quality craftsmanship, and made it a point to source from the hardworking women of the Atlas Mountains whenever possible. He knew that by supporting their work, he was not only preserving a centuries-old tradition, but also empowering the women to support themselves and their families.
Today, Steve's love for Morocco and the Moroccan culture is evident in every rug he sells at Gallery Berkemeyer. He takes great pride in showcasing the beauty and tradition of these rugs, and is committed to honoring the hardworking women who create them. His shop has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for anyone who shares his passion for Moroccan art and culture.
