When an Aerospace Engineer Couldn't Find Labels Worth Buying, He Made His Own
Hi, I'm Shawn – U.S. Army veteran (Desert Shield/Desert Storm) and aerospace engineer.
Impact Model started because I kept buying toolbox labels that disappointed me.
The adhesive ones peeled off in the Arizona heat. The magnetic ones had press-fit magnets that fell out after a few drawer slams. The designs were either too small to read or looked cheap. Nothing was engineered right.
So, I did what I've done my whole career – I designed something better.
After serving in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, I spent 20 years as an aerospace engineer building hypersonic weapons systems and advanced propulsion for our military. Precision and durability aren't optional in that world – they're requirements. When I couldn't find toolbox labels that met those standards, I applied that same mindset to my garage.
Impact Model labels use PETG (handles 180°F – won't warp like PLA), rare earth magnets fully embedded in the print (they'll never fall out), and two-color high-contrast designs that are actually readable from across the shop.
I made these for myself first. Then friends and fellow engineers kept saying "you should sell these." So that's what I'm doing – offering what I think are premium designs at fair prices.
Every label is 3D printed to order here in Marana, Arizona. I make every order to order because quality shouldn't be rushed — but I move fast because I know what it's like to want something NOW. And I stand behind everything I make.
If you've been settling for labels that aren't quite right, I get it. I was there too.
Let me make you something better.
