We make clothing for people who carry Portugal with them.
Some things don’t translate.
Not really.
You can tell someone what saudade means — the longing, the ache, the love that stays after everything else leaves — but until they’ve felt it themselves, the word is just letters.
Mar & Alma started with that feeling.
We’re from Torreira — a small strip of land on the Ria de Aveiro where the lagoon meets the Atlantic and everything smells of salt. The kind of place that stays in you long after you’ve left. The kind of place you dream about in whatever city the world took you to.
We make clothing for the Portuguese diaspora. For the ones who grew up translating, who still argue about which city makes the best pastel de nata (it’s Belém, it’s always Belém, don’t come @ us), who know that desenrasca isn’t just a word — it’s a way of life.
And for the locals too. The ones who stayed in the villages nobody outside Portugal can
pronounce. The ones who wear their terra like a second skin and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Every design is born from something real — a feeling, a place, a saying that made us laugh or made us stop and stare at the sea for a while.
Every piece is made with intention and inspected by hand before it leaves our door. We self-fulfill every order from New Jersey — because when something carries this much meaning, you don’t hand it off. No shortcuts. No compromises. Just good ideas on good shirts, made with soul, shipped to wherever in the world Portugal’s people ended up.
If you know, you know.
Mar & Alma — Salt, Soul & Saudade. Sempre.
