Nell'estate del 2016, Nate ha iniziato a scattare foto casualmente con il suo iPhone. Un sacco di foto. La maggior parte sono stati portati all'aperto e hanno evidenziato alcune delle caratteristiche uniche di West Chester, PA, e Sea Isle City, NJ, dove Nate trascorre la maggior parte del suo tempo.
Mentre Nate si divertiva a scattare le foto, ha deciso che avevano bisogno di qualcosa, come dice lui, per "farli scoppiare". Ha iniziato ad applicare filtri per rendere i colori più vivaci, quindi ha condiviso le foto impreziosite sui social media.
In poco tempo, la famiglia e gli amici hanno preso nota – tra cui il datore di lavoro di Nate (a quel tempo) Grace Winery a Glen Mills, PA, che lo ha incoraggiato a fare una mostra d'arte a una degustazione di vini.
"Abbiamo stampato circa 50 foto opache e lui le ha vendute tutte", dice Carolyn Seagraves, la mamma di Nate. "Nate's Funky Pics è nato. Successivamente, Nate ha iniziato a vendere oggetti con le sue foto ai festival e ai mercati degli agricoltori.
La fotografia non è l'unico interesse di Nate. Ama anche cantare e ballare e spera di esibirsi a Broadway un giorno. "Voglio essere famoso e fare ancora fotografia", dice Nate.
Nate, 25 anni, si è recentemente laureato presso il West Chester University RAM Initiative Program (un programma di certificazione biennale per giovani adulti con disabilità intellettive). Ha appena finito la produzione di un cortometraggio chiamato "My First Shot" che Nate interpreta come un giovane adulto con sindrome di Down che ottiene il suo primo lavoro. L'uscita del film è prevista per l'inizio del 2021.
In the summer of 2016, Nate started casually taking pictures with his iPhone. A lot of pictures. Most were taken outdoors and highlighted some of the unique characteristics of West Chester, PA, and Sea Isle City, NJ, where Nate spends most of his time.
While Nate enjoyed taking the photos, he decided they needed something, as he says, to “funk them up.” He began applying filters to make the colors extra vibrant, then shared the embellished photos on social media.
Before long, family and friends took notice — including Nate’s employer (at that time) Grace Winery in Glen Mills, PA, who encouraged him to do an art show at a wine tasting.
“We printed out about 50 matted photos and he sold all of them,” says Carolyn Seagraves, Nate’s mom. “Nate’s Funky Pics was born. After that, Nate started selling items with his photos at festivals and farmers markets.”
Photography isn’t Nate’s only interest. He also loves to sing and dance and hopes to perform on Broadway one day. “I want to be famous and still do photography,” Nate says.
Nate, 25, recently graduated from the West Chester University RAM Initiative Program (a two-year certificate program for young adults with intellectual disabilities). He just finished production on a short film called "My First Shot" which Nate stars as a young adult with Down syndrome who lands his first job. The film is set to be released in early 2021.
