'In stock' for my shop really means having the supplies to be able to make that item for a customer. I don't have the space for a lot of flowers in my craft-room and I worry about storing them before I sell them; when a customer orders, I make these from scratch, instead of having them ready on a shelf. Each flower design also needs custom made packaging to make sure that they arrive at your home in the condition that they leave us and this can also take time. To ensure that customers aren't disappointed in a late delivery, I prefer to use the 3-5 day dispatch which usually means they are a little early or on time. Simon's work is different; these 'one-off' wooden items are already made before we add them, allowing a 1-2 day delivery time.

Having a permanent flower arrangement does mean that a little dust gathers from time to time. If you notice that your flowers are a bit dusty, simply get a hair dryer and set it on cold and on the lowest blow setting. Hold the dryer in one hand and use your other hand to cup the back of each flower to support the petals. Then, simply blow from a distance of about 6 inches away to remove the dust. If some petals do fold back, simply gently push them back into place.

When I first started, I simply followed the instructions and designs that I had in a book on flower making. Years ago, I knew someone who's father had made beautiful tissue paper flowers as a part of his occupational therapy after he had been ill, so I knew the kinds of things that could be created and was aware that the book covered the popular flowers but there were hundreds of real blooms out there that could also be made. I now come up with my own designs, using the techniques and methods that I have developed myself. Now, I search for images, draw it to life-size for measurement and make a paper pattern to create a prototype.

We recycle all the packaging that we can from parcels and deliveries we receive. You might get a box that has been sent from another company originally, or wrapping paper that has been re-used. We also sometimes use polystyrene but it is always second-hand. We are always on the look-out for ways to re-use and re-cycle and hope that, if you receive a package from us with plastic or polystyrene in, that you continue to re-cycle it again if possible.

Our wood comes from many places. We re-use old mahogany window frames that have been put aside for burning or landfill, for example. The larger items are made from trees that have been pruned or, sadly, felled. These pieces are left to dry under cover in a natural way. Other pieces have been sourced from local people who make solid wood furniture and are disposing of the off-cuts. We are also lucky to be in contact with one or two tree-surgeons who will pass on unusual pieces of wood, or like minded wood turners in our area who like to swap or barter for different species to add to the range. Simon even inspects our barn dried logs that we order for the log burner in case anything can be used from that!
