Care instructions

Please be gentle with your special piece! Sea glass can chip or break just like regular glass if not treated with care.

Here are some tips to keep it looking its best:
Avoid direct contact with water
Apply beauty products (perfume, hairspray, spray deodorant) before putting your jewelry on
Ensure jewelry is dry before storing
Store your pieces separate from other jewelry to prevent scratching
When needed, gently wipe with a soft jewelry cloth

What are the advantages of gold filled pieces?

We choose to work exclusively with gold-filled materials because the gold content is significantly higher than gold-plated materials, and in turn, more durable. As long as gold-filled pieces are taken care of properly (see care FAQ), they can last years on end. This is the next best thing to the significantly more expensive solid gold.

That’s why Paros Collection pieces make for great classic pieces, daily-wears, or novelty pieces you can consistently reach for in your jewelry box for many years to come. After all, a piece of sea glass that’s been carefully chiseled by the sea over 40 years or more deserves to stand out against high-quality materials!

Why is gold-filled better than gold-plated material?

Gold-plated jewelry is very common, cheaper, and works well for trendy/fast fashion, but it will not stand up to regular wear or water, and can irritate/discolor your skin. It is a very thin layer of gold bonded onto a base metal like brass or copper. Molecules of the base metals eventually transfer into the thin layer of gold and cause it to break down.

All the chains, clasps, jump rings, and wire used for Paros Collection pieces are gold-filled, not gold-plated.

Where do you get your sea glass from?

A variety of places! All of it has been found by me, my husband, and our families. It's fun to beachcomb together on a beautiful day by the water and sort our treasures right after. Then the best part is envisioning how they'll be featured best on our dazzling gold-filled chains!

Do you ever use tumbled glass?

We never ever use any methods to enhance the glass, nor do we create faux sea glass. This is to preserve the sanctity of what sea glass represents to Paros Collection. Be cautious of sea glass jewelry on the market that looks too “perfect” or multiple pieces that look the same. These are likely created unnaturally through a process called tumbling, not real, and do not tell the deep story they are meant to represent. Imperfectly perfect in its natural state is how we like to keep it.

How come there are no {insert any color/shape you're wondering about} pieces left?

Our inventory of sea glass is based on what we find personally. You will see that the most common colors are white since we come across this the most, followed by different shades of green, sea foam, and browns. Aquas and lavenders are striking and pop up in our collection sometimes. Then we have cobalt blue and red pieces which are some of the rarest (and this is true for any collection), which is why they are priced higher. Keep checking back if you're looking for something in particular as our inventory changes regularly!

What does "Paros" mean?

The word "Paros" means lighthouse in my native language - Armenian. A beacon of light to trust and follow when in rough waters. It's like that guiding light within that reminds you the universe has got you, and you're going to be just fine, no matter what the circumstance. Trusting it takes us exactly where we're meant to go.

Based on that alone I knew I had my company name...but then to my surprise I discovered that variations of the word "paros" also mean lighthouse in a whole host of different languages!

փարոս, or "paros," in Armenian
φάρος, or "fáros" in Greek
"faro" in Italian & Spanish
"farol" in Portuguese
"phare" in French
"parola" in Filipino
"pharos" in Latin
"far" in Albanian and Romanian

So Paros it was.
