My Why…
¡Hola! Soy Carissa Sliwinski, la dueña de Positively Lettering.
¡Siempre he sido una persona creativa! Durante años pasé del cine a la fotografía, de la escritura a la radio, ¡pero no fue hasta que descubrí las letras a mano que encontré una manera de aprovechar realmente esa creatividad!
Los comienzos de mi viaje de letras a mano son realmente dobles: nacen de la necesidad y una temporada de angustia extrema.
¡En 2017, nos mudamos a nuestra primera casa! Había una decoración específica que sabía que quería para la habitación de mi hija, pero no podía encontrar exactamente lo que quería en ninguna parte. Busqué en Google y finalmente decidí que lo haría yo mismo. Estaba obsesionado con esta fuente hinchable que estaba viendo en todas partes y después de encontrar videos en línea, ¡me di cuenta de que esta "fuente" era en realidad personas que lo hacían ellos mismos!
Al mismo tiempo, estaba pasando por una temporada de increíble negatividad en mi vida personal. Tantas cosas hirientes estaban siendo lanzadas en mi dirección. Como una forma de sobrellevarlo, comencé a centrarme muy intencionalmente en la positividad: versículos, afirmaciones, citas. Todas las noches practicaba esta nueva cosa de las letras a mano escribiendo estas cosas una y otra y otra vez. Sin darme cuenta, las letras se convirtieron en mi autocuidado y poco a poco comencé a sanar. Una vez que me volví lo suficientemente valiente, comencé a compartir mi nuevo pasatiempo. ¡Y así nació Positively Lettering!
Soy una persona tan visual y me ayudó a escribir una afirmación o un versículo bíblico en mi espejo o una nota adhesiva o una pizarra en mi casa como un recordatorio de esas verdades. Sé que hay muchos de ustedes como yo, así que se convirtió en mi deseo alentar y compartir positividad con los demás a través de pegatinas, impresiones, letreros de pared y más.
Mirando hacia atrás, ahora puedo ver el interés que siempre tuve desde una edad temprana en las formas de letras, la escritura a mano y las fuentes. ¿No es sorprendente cómo, en retrospectiva, todas las piezas del rompecabezas encajan y tienen sentido?
¡Me trae tanta alegría y satisfacción ayudar a crear piezas que animen a otros! Estoy muy agradecida y asombrada de la oportunidad que se me tiene de confiar en la creación de regalos y piezas tan especiales para los hogares de las personas. ¡Me encantaría la oportunidad de hacer lo mismo por ti!
Es cierto, cuando apoyas a una pequeña empresa, realmente hacemos un baile feliz, un baile incómodo pero aún así muy feliz. Estás ayudando a pagar las clases de natación, t-ball, cortes de pelo y un cono de helado. Tus compras realmente cambian nuestra vida y mi oración siempre ha sido que uno de mis diseños pueda hacer lo mismo por ti.

Hi! I'm Carissa Sliwinski the owner of Positively Lettering.
I have always been a creative person! For years I bounced around from film to photography to writing to radio - but it wasn't until I discovered hand lettering that I found a way to truly harness that creativity!
The beginnings of my hand lettering journey are really two-fold - birthed out of necessity and a season of extreme heartache.
In 2017, we moved into our very first home! There was specific decor I knew I wanted for my daughter's room, but I could not find exactly what I wanted anywhere. I Googled and searched and eventually decided I would just do it myself. I was obsessed with this bouncy font that I was seeing everywhere and after finding videos online, I realized that this "font" was actually people doing it themselves!
At the same time, I was going thru a season of incredible negativity in my personal life. So many hurtful things were being thrown in my direction. As a way to cope, I began very intentionally focusing on positivity - verses, affirmations, quotes. Every night I would practice this new hand-lettering thing by writing out these things over and over and over. Without realizing it, lettering became my self-care and I slowly began to heal. Once I became brave enough, I began sharing my newfound hobby. And just like that Positively Lettering was born!
I am such a visual person and it helped me to write an affirmation or Bible verse on my mirror or a sticky note or a chalkboard in my house as a reminder of those truths. I know there are many of you out there like me so it became my desire to encourage and share positivity with others through stickers, prints, wall signs and more!
Looking back, I can now see the interest I always had from a young age in letter forms, handwriting and fonts. Isn't it amazing how - in hindsight - all the puzzle pieces fit together and totally make sense?
It brings me such joy and fulfillment to help create pieces that encourage others! I am so thankful and in awe of the opportunity I have to be trusted with creating such special gifts and pieces for people's homes. I would love the opportunity to do the same for you!
It's true, when you support a small business, we really do a happy dance - an awkward but still very happy dance. You are helping pay for swim lessons, t-ball, haircuts and an ice cream cone. Your purchases really do. change our life and my prayer has always been that one of my designs could do the same for you.
