Owned by Russell Shumate and operated along with fiance Lynn Alecia, Russell’s Retro is the go-to stop for Mid-century Modern furniture and accessories both online and off.
Trained as a cabinetmaker, Shumate specializes in re-upholstering and restoring furniture from the mid-century into modern lifestyle pieces. “We’re the only shop in Tucson dedicated solely to preserving that Mid-Century design look.”
Drawn to the clean lines and architectural designs popular in the 50's and 60's, Tucson native Shumate is uniquely well-suited for his work. His mother owned an upholstery supply company and his dad was a Master Upholsterer for vintage cars. Shumate had the foresight to stockpile vintage fabrics from his mother’s shop when she retired and closed her business; using the original fabric and techniques whenever possible.
From chrome and vinyl kitchen sets to leather chairs straight out of the popular "Mad Men" TV series, Russell’s Retro visitors feel a blast from the past when they step into to the shop. We always hear customers say, “This is just like what my grandma had!”
As the local period showplace, Russell’s Retro Furnishings offers a wide range of furniture, art and décor from one of the most sought after periods—Mid-Century Modern from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
