The Key That Started It All
It began simply. We wanted a small travel tradition. Something to collect from antique shops and flea markets as we explored new places. We settled on old keys. They were perfect: pocket-sized, full of history, and each one unique.
Our collection grew. Skeleton keys from Paris flea markets. Brass keys from estate sales in Vermont. Tiny cabinet keys from dusty shops in small towns.
Then one day, I noticed a hollow barrel key in our collection. On a whim, I wrote a note, just a few words about something I was hoping for, rolled it tight, and tucked it inside.
The Unexpected Magic
I carried that key everywhere. And something shifted. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe it was my brain finally focusing on what mattered, but things started falling into place. The weight of the key in my pocket became a gentle reminder. A touchstone.
When I learned about the Reticular Activating System and how our brains filter information based on what we focus on, it all clicked. This little ritual was actually rewiring my attention.
Why We Share This
We still collect keys when we travel. But now, we also hunt for the perfect hollow barrel keys to share this practice with others. Each one is chosen with the same care we put into building our personal collection.
Because sometimes the most powerful tools are the simplest ones. A key. A note. A pocket. A practice.
Still collecting, still carrying, still discovering.
