Desde que tengo memoria siempre me ha gustado dibujar. Crecí amando todo lo relacionado con el arte y el diseño, y finalmente obtuve una licenciatura en Diseño Textil Impreso en la universidad. Cuando me gradué en 1992, simplemente no había las oportunidades para carreras creativas que hay ahora y después de probar algunas carreras diferentes, me decidí por la enseñanza.
Desafortunadamente, después de 11 años, la pura presión de mi carrera pasó factura y sufrí un período de depresión. Como parte de mi recuperación volví a dibujar y comencé a ilustrar citas que reflejaban cómo me sentía. Cuando me acercaba a los 50, me di cuenta de que necesitaba alejarme por completo de la enseñanza y concentrarme únicamente en mi negocio. ¡Aquí es cuando me puse serio! Alrededor de este tiempo surgió la oportunidad de mudarme con mi esposo de Norfolk a Dorset. La casa que compramos tenía el estudio más asombroso ya renovado en el jardín. Una vez que un lavadero comunitario me proporcionó el espacio más maravilloso dentro del cual podía crear a mi gusto.
Después de solicitar una subvención comercial, pude invertir en equipos para desarrollar aún más mi negocio y el lado de la sublimación de mi trabajo comenzó a crecer. Ahora ofrezco posavasos, imanes, llaveros, bolsos de mano y otros artículos brillantes y coloridos en una variedad de colecciones diferentes.
Cualquier día de la semana puedes encontrarme felizmente instalado en mi cálido y acogedor estudio trabajando en pedidos, preparándome para mercados o creando nuevas ideas. Me inspira el jardín que me rodea y el campo de North Dorset, donde vivo. Felices días de verdad.
For as long as I can remember I have always loved drawing. I grew up loving all things art and design, eventually undertaking a degree in Printed Textile Design at university. When I graduated in 1992 there simply wasn't the opportunities for creative careers that there are now and after trying out a few different careers I settled on teaching.
Unfortunately, after 11 years, the sheer pressure of my career took its toll and I suffered a period of depression. As part of my recovery I went back to drawing and began to illustrate quotes that reflected how I felt. As I neared my 50s I realised that I needed to completely step away from teaching and focus solely on my business. This is when I got serious! Around this time an opportunity came up to relocate with my husband from Norfolk to Dorset. The house we bought had the most amazing studio already renovated in the garden. Once a community wash house it provided me with the most wonderful space within which I could create to my hearts content.
After applying for a business grant I was able to invest in equipment to develop my business further and the sublimation side of my work began to grow. I now offer coasters, magnets, key rings, tote bags and other bright and colourful items in a range of different collections.
Any day of the week you can find me happily ensconced in my warm and cosy studio working on orders, preparing for markets or creating new ideas. I'm inspired by my garden all around me and the countryside in North Dorset where I live. Happy days indeed.
