Preparando la escena

Vivo y trabajo desde mi casita de campo ubicada al pie de las hermosas colinas de South Shropshire, en la frontera entre Gales e Inglaterra. La mesa de la cocina de mi casa de campo es como mi viejo amigo; ha servido como un lugar maravilloso para reunir a la familia, hospedar amigos y compartir recuerdos felices, tristes y agridulces a lo largo de los años. Ahora reside audazmente en mi sala de trabajo (también conocida como cocina), y la energía de ella continúa, ya que actualmente soporta capas de pintura, paverpol, perforaciones, más recuerdos y el "nacimiento" en constante evolución de mis esculturas. Es un gran lugar para trabajar, evocar recuerdos y emociones, inspirar... y crear el espacio para disfrutar de una taza (o una copa) ocasional con amigos y familiares.

Mi viaje

Me ha encantado el arte de todas las formas desde muy joven, desde el dibujo, la pintura, la cerámica, cualquier cosa creativa y me he volcado en ello. Cuando tenía poco más de veinte años y en medio de una familia cada vez más joven, también comencé a enseñarme a mí mismo y a hacer artesanías textiles; juguetes de peluche, ropa para niños, tapices, etc. Con 5 hermosos niños que criar, la vida estaba ocupada. Vivíamos en una granja orgánica, cultivábamos nuestras propias verduras, teníamos una vaca doméstica, dos ovejas, patos y gallinas. ¡Y he hecho a mano! La vida era buena. ¡No sé muy bien de dónde saqué la energía!
A medida que los niños crecieron, fueron a la escuela, dejaron la escuela y finalmente se fueron de casa, pude concentrarme y dedicarme cada vez más a mi amor por el arte. A lo largo de los años, mi trabajo textil se fue volviendo más experimental y estaba desarrollando mis propias ideas, así como un interés en crear trabajos tridimensionales.
En 2013, buscando en Google endurecedores textiles, me topé con Paverpol, un endurecedor textil que me llevó por un camino completamente inesperado. Compré una maceta y experimenté con ella, me encantó cómo funciona para crear movimiento en la tela. Y un par de meses después de esto, tuve la suerte de asistir a un taller de fin de semana con los maravillosos creadores de Paverpol, Jossy y Jan De Roode. Y el resto es historia... ¡Me enganchó!


Qué hago ahora

Hago emotivas esculturas de medios mixtos utilizando alambre, láminas y telas sumergidas en un endurecedor textil resistente a la intemperie llamado Paverpol. Son adecuados para el hogar y el jardín.* Paverpol es un producto seguro para el medio ambiente y es seguro para todas las edades, lo que lo convierte en un medio ideal para la ejecución de talleres.
Uso telas recicladas, remeras viejas, vestidos, jeans en la medida de lo posible para vestir muchas de mis figuras y tengo una reserva de hermosos batiks y otras telas de algodón de mi vida anterior de diseño textil. Siempre que las telas sean naturales, es decir, algodón, seda, lana, etc., se adaptan bien a paverpol y, por lo tanto, puedo incorporar vestidos viejos de clientes, ropa de niños al hacer piezas a medida para darle vida a sus propias piezas y evocar sus propios recuerdos.
Todas mis piezas evolucionan para tener su propio espíritu único; - esto mantiene la alegría de hacerlos vivos y emocionantes. Me esfuerzo por capturar el movimiento, la dinámica y una respuesta emocional a mi trabajo; la ternura entre madre e hijo, o entre dos amantes; la dinámica de una pareja de baile, la alegría y la energía de la infancia.
Me inspiran los recuerdos, además de que me encanta observar a la gente, observar la dinámica, los lenguajes corporales y las acciones de las personas.
A veces (muy a menudo en mis sueños) aparece una idea en mi cabeza y luego empiezo a crear algo nuevo y emocionante.
Mis esculturas son excelentes regalos para ocasiones especiales como bodas, cumpleaños, aniversarios, nacimientos, bautizos o simplemente porque sí.

Adquisitivo

Todos los artículos en mi tienda de Etsy indican si están disponibles actualmente o si están hechos a pedido. Me esfuerzo por publicar cualquier escultura disponible dentro de los 3 días. Dependiendo de la complejidad de un pedido a realizar, puede tardar de 1 a 6 semanas.
Recibo muchas solicitudes de comisiones a medida que estoy feliz de discutir y espero cumplir. Octubre en adelante se vuelve un poco maníaco con los pedidos de Navidad, así que si tiene una idea, ¡permítase suficiente tiempo, especialmente si se van a enviar al extranjero!

Setting the Scene

I live and work from my little cottage nestled at the bottom of the beautiful South Shropshire Hills on the border of Wales and England. My farmhouse kitchen table is like my old friend; it's served as a wonderful place to bring the family together, hosted friends, and shared memories both happy, sad and bittersweet through the years. Now it boldly resides in my work room (aka kitchen), and the energy from it continues as it currently supports layers of paint, paverpol, drill holes, more memories and the ever evolving "birthing" of my sculptures. It's a great place to work, evoke memories and emotions, inspire .... and just make the space to enjoy the occasional cuppa (or a glass) with friends and family

My journey

I have loved art of all forms since a very young age, from drawing, painting, pottery - anything creative and I've thrown myself into it. In my late twenties and in the midst of an ever increasing young family, I also began teaching myself and making textile crafts; soft toys, childrens clothes, wall hangings etc. With 5 beautiful children to bring up, life was busy. We lived on an organic farm, grew our own veggies, had a housecow, two sheep, ducks and chickens. And I crafted! Life was good. Don't know quite where I got the energy from!
As the children grew up, went to school, left school and eventually left home, I was able to focus and throw myself ever more into my love of art. Over the years my textile work was becoming more experimental, and I was developing my own ideas as well as an interest in creating 3 dimensional work.
Back in 2013, googling textile hardeners, I stumbled across Paverpol - a textile hardener which has sent me on a comletely unexpected path. I bought a pot and experimented with it, loved how it works to create movement in fabric. And a couple of months after this, was lucky enough to attend a weekend workshop with the wonderful creators of Paverpol, Jossy and Jan De Roode. And the rest is history ... I was hooked!


What I Do Now

I make emotive mixed media sculptures using wire, foil and fabric dipped into a weatherproof textile hardener called Paverpol. They are suitable for home and garden.* Paverpol is an environmentally safe product to use, and is safe for all ages which makes it an ideal medium for running workshops.
I use recycled fabrics, old t-shirts, dresses, jeans as much as possible for dressing many of my figures and have a stash of beautiful batiks and other cotton fabrics from my previous life of textile design. So long as the fabrics are natural ie cotton, silk, wool etc, they take well to paverpol and therefore I can incorporate customers old dresses, children's wear when making bespoke pieces to bring their own pieces to life and evoke their own memories.
All my pieces evolve to have their own unique spirit; - this keeps the joy of making them alive and exciting. I endeavour to capture movement, dynamics, and an emotional response to my work; the tenderness between a mother and baby, or between two lovers; the dynamics of a dancing couple, the joy and energy of childhood.
I'm inspired by memories, as well as having a love of people watching - noting the dynamics, body languages and actions of people.
Sometimes (quite often in my dreams) an idea will pop into my head and then off I go into creating something new and exciting.
My sculptures make great gifts for those special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, births, Christenings or just because.

Purchasing

All items on my Etsy shop state whether they are presently available or made to order. I endeavour to post any available sculptures within 3 days. Depending on the complexity of an order to make, it can take from 1-6 weeks.
I receive many requests for bespoke commissions which I am happy to discuss and hopefully fulfill. October on wards gets a bit manic with orders for Christmas so if you have an idea, then please allow plenty of time, particularly if they are to be sent abroad!
