Felted Opal è nato un po' per capriccio, ma per tutta la vita sono stata una "creatrice". Questo negozio Etsy renderebbe molto orgogliosa la me di 6 anni; sapere che sarei passata dal creare regali e biglietti fatti a mano in giovane età ad avere un intero negozio su Etsy da adulta, dove avrei potuto creare cose che altre persone amavano veramente e volevano acquistare! Posso dire onestamente che sto vivendo il mio sogno d'infanzia!

Metto così tanta cura in tutto ciò che faccio ed è importante che tu lo sappia. Sono estremamente attento ai dettagli con un pizzico (ok, forse un po') di perfezionismo.

Penso che tutto ciò che faccio sia un riflesso non solo del mio negozio, ma anche di chi sono come persona. La tua felicità è della massima importanza perché il denaro è costoso oggigiorno e il mio obiettivo è che quando apri il tuo ordine, tu dica a te stesso: "ne è valsa la pena al 100%"

Il mio "ufficio/spazio di lavoro" è il tavolo della sala da pranzo (il 97,3% delle volte sembra che ci sia esplosa una bomba di feltro), ma questa stanza ha la migliore illuminazione della casa, quindi cosa si può fare?

Inizialmente ho imparato a "cucire" quando ero una bambina, per gentile concessione della mia nonna Joan. Il motivo per cui ho messo cucire tra virgolette è perché, diciamoci la verità, è stata lei a fare la maggior parte del lavoro. Ho solo battuto il piede sulla pagaia e ho fatto qualche punto (non molto dritto). È morta nel 2010 e mi sono appassionata al cucito nel 2020, quando mio figlio ha iniziato a chiedermi cose (il mio primo tentativo è stato un sacco a pelo/nanna per un bambino ossessionato dai bisonti) e quando ho iniziato, ragazzi, avrei voluto prestare più attenzione quando ero una bambina! Ho ereditato tutti i suoi vecchi strumenti da cucito e ogni volta che uso qualcosa di suo, è come se fosse lì con me.

Mi è sempre piaciuto disegnare e dipingere e se potessi confrontare alcuni dei miei primi lavori con quelli più recenti, onestamente, sarebbe comico. Uccelli, cani e onestamente, semplicemente gli animali, in generale, sono le mie cose preferite da dipingere. Anche i ritratti sono divertenti! Ne ho fatti alcuni ed è incredibile vedere il pasticcio trasformarsi in un capolavoro. Inizialmente ho iniziato con gli acrilici quando ero più giovane, ho provato con gli oli, ma alla fine ho scoperto che gli acquerelli sono senza dubbio il mio medium preferito (ovviamente senza includere il feltro quando dico questo!)

Realizzo tutti i miei modelli di cucito da sola, usando carta oleata, giornali o semplicemente carta per computer. A volte funzionano e a volte no (non fatemi nemmeno iniziare con il fiasco dei dinosauri del 2021) e tutto è tagliato a mano individualmente, nonostante mio marito mi abbia regalato una Cricut per Natale qualche anno fa (ps: non ditegli che non riesco ancora a capire quella cosa)

The Felted Opal was started on a bit of a whim, but my whole life I've been a "maker." This Etsy store would make 6-year-old me very proud; to know that I'd go from hand-making gifts & cards at a young age to have a whole store on Etsy as an adult, where I'd get to make things that other people truly loved and wanted to buy! I can honestly I am living my childhood dream!

So much care goes into everything that I make and it's important for you to know that. I'm extremely detail-oriented with a bit (ok, maybe a lot) of a perfectionist streak.

I feel that everything I make is a reflection of not only my shop but a reflection of who I am as a person. Your happiness is of the greatest importance because money is expensive these days and it is my goal that when you open your order, you say to yourself, "this was 100% worth it"

My "office/work space" is the dining room table (97.3% of the time it looks like a felt bomb went off in here) but, this room has the best lighting in the house, so what can you do?

I initially learned how to "sew" when I was a little girl, courtesy of my Mamaw Joan. The reason I put sew in quotations is because, let's be honest, she did the bulk of it. I just tapped my foot on the paddle and ran a few (not very straight) stitches. She died in 2010 and I got really into sewing in 2020 when my son started requesting things (a knock-off sleeping bag/napper for a bison-obsessed toddler was my first attempt) and when I started, boy, did I wish I'd paid better attention when I was a little girl! I have inherited all of her old sewing stuff and every time I use something of hers, it's like she's right there with me.

I've always enjoyed drawing and painting and if you could compare some of the earlier works to the more recent ones, honestly, it's comical. Birds, dogs and honestly, just animals, in general, are my favorite things to paint. Portraits are fun too! I have done a few of those and it's amazing to see the mess turn into the masterpiece. I initially started with acrylics when I was younger, attempted oils, but ultimately, discovered that watercolors are without a doubt my preferred medium (obviously not including felt when I say this!)

I make all of my sewing patterns myself using wax paper, newspapers, or just plain-old computer paper. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't (don't even get me started on the dinosaur fiasco of 2021) and everything is individually hand-cut despite my husband getting me a cricut for Christmas a few years ago (ps - don't tell him I still can't figure that thing out)
