A New Beginning
When my husband accepted a job in New York we were over the moon. He had been a graduate student for the past 8 years and finally, an amazing opportunity to show for all of that hard work. So we packed up our little family and moved from Minnesota to New York and although we miss our friends in the Midwest, we haven't looked back.
I left my job of five years and considered this not only an opportunity for our family to learn and grow, but for me to start something new. In the back of my mind I had always wanted to do something where I could create and make lovely things with my hands. Since childhood I loved creating things. If I don't make something for a few days I get an itch and need to pick up my crochet hook, knitting needles, or even bake a layer cake. So out of this need to create and having this amazing opportunity to start anew, I opened Tiny Island Handmade in 2015.
Tiny Island refers to our little piece of New York---Long Island. And here on the north shore, by the water and the wind and the sand, in our little seaside village, is where I create. The items that I make for the shop are all made by me with as much care and attention to detail as if I was making it for my own children. I hope that this care shows in the items that make it to your home and onto your sweet little ones.
