How Urban Blocks was created
Hola, mi nombre es Selig, soy esposo y padre de tres hijos y trabajo a tiempo completo como animador en la industria del entretenimiento. ¡Crecí construyendo y creando todo tipo de cosas, desde carpintería, soldadura y cerámica hasta escultura! ¡Descubrí la impresión 3D hace un tiempo y me lancé de cabeza! Como la mayoría de las personas que adquieren una impresora 3D, su mente comienza a trabajar de una manera diferente y ¡solo quiere imprimirlo todo!
Mi hija consiguió estos bloques de madera que ella (y yo) apilábamos y con los que hacíamos pequeñas ciudades, ¡pero pensé que sería genial si realmente parecieran pequeños edificios! Así que diseñé algunos, pero luego se caían tan fácilmente y no se alineaban como quería... ¡Así que decidí agregar algunos imanes! Y después de MUCHAS iteraciones de diseños y tipos de imanes, terminé con imanes cilíndricos diametralmente magnetizados especiales que están incrustados en los propios bloques de construcción para que no haya que preocuparse de que se caigan y los niños se los traguen.
Durante el proceso de idear los diseños, traje los Urban Blocks al trabajo y mis compañeros de trabajo siguieron tomándolos prestados por un tiempo para hacer sus propias pequeñas ciudades en sus escritorios. ¡Resulta que también funcionan muy bien como juguete de escritorio!
Hello, my name is Selig, and I am a husband and father of three and work full-time as an Animator in the entertainment industry. I have grown up building and creating all kinds of things from woodworking, welding, and pottery, to sculpting! I discovered 3D printing a while ago and jumped in head first! Like most people who get a 3D printer, your mind starts working in a different way and you just want to print everything!
My Daughter got these wooden blocks that she (and I) would stack and make little cities with, but I thought it would be cool if they actually looked like little buildings! So I made designed some, but then they would keep falling over so easily and wouldn't line up just how I wanted... So I decided to add some magnets! And after MANY iterations of designs and magnet types, I ended up with Special Diametrically Magnetized Cylindrical Magnets that are embedded into the Building blocks themselves so there is no worry about them falling out and kids swallowing them!
During the process of figuring out the designs, I brought the Urban Blocks to work and my coworkers kept on borrowing them for a bit to make their own little cities at their desks. So turns out they work great as a desk toy too!
