My family had no idea of my decision for a new woodturning hobby.
I am one for doing research before making any decision...much research. I decided that I wanted to take up the woodturning hobby and set to work on gathering information. I bought the starting items required and turned my first pen.
When the pen was completed, I took it to my wife and said, "Here...I made you something." She did not believe me at first and asked me several times if I really made it. I asked her, "What do you think I've been doing downstairs for so long?" She had no idea that this had been on my mind for a while.
We have a daughter, Kaitlin, who has been helping me since I started this venture when she was about 4 years old. She is a GREAT "quality control manager" and will always tell me what is wrong (or not wrong) with the products I make. She knows so much about different types of wood, the names of the tools and where they are located, and even helps me turn a few items (with much supervision). This past year, she turned her own pencil and entered it into a local agricultural contest. She won 2nd place! You can see a photo of her and the pen she turned on the WoodturningBlog Facebook page.
Well, that is how the WoodturningBlog store got started. I made a pen and expanded my items from there. I enjoy what I do and I am always looking for new items to craft. Please like my store and tell your friends to check out the site.
