Yamira Studio - Where nothing is waste .
OUR STORY
We (@YamiraStudio) are a small studio built on the philosophy of Mottainai — a Japanese lifestyle concept that emphasizes finding value in what is often considered waste. This principle guides our work: we reclaim, upcycle, and repurpose discarded textiles to craft unique and timeless Boro patchwork pieces that defy trends and fast fashion.
As fashion designers with over two decades of experience across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America, we’ve seen the fashion industry’s wastefulness up close. The relentless trend cycle has resulted in disturbing levels of textile and material waste, a reality that deeply concerned us.
In response, and after extensive research and learning from master artisans around the world, we founded YamiraStudio in 2017 to offer an alternative, one that encourages a shift in mindset through intentional and meaningful change.
Through our products, workshops, and teaching, we've aimed to contribute — even in a small way — to a more thoughtful and sustainable approach to fashion.
WHAT WE DO
Our creations, especially our Boro items, are handcrafted using reclaimed textiles. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and made with care, time, and attention to detail. We do not buy new fabric, instead, we work with what we have gathered in stock, textile donations or what we can sustainably source.
Each bag is lovingly handmade, a testament to our deep respect for the craft. We never outsource labor, staying true to our philosophy and honouring the skills we have cultivated through years of study, research, and hands-on experience, without compromise. Our creations embody our vision, expertise, and unwavering commitment to sustainability and the principles of zero waste.
