Coffee and Thread es un nombre que elegí para representar dos de las cosas más importantes de mi vida. ¡Absolutamente no funcionaría como un ser humano sin la ayuda de mi buen amigo café! ! He estado cosiendo desde que tenía siete años y todavía uso la máquina de mi abuela hoy en día. <3
Cuando estaba entrando en mi segundo año de universidad, me enfermé y pasé el año siguiente buscando un diagnóstico; finalmente me diagnosticaron la enfermedad de Lyme y comencé mi viaje de regreso hacia el bienestar. Como parte de mis dos años de tratamiento fueron 13 meses de antibióticos intravenosos. Todo el tiempo luché con envolturas de hospital de gasa y calcetines cortados para cubrir y proteger mi línea PICC. Más tarde, me di cuenta de que debería haber hecho algo mejor yo mismo (culpar a la niebla cerebral). Tan pronto como tuve un apartamento lo suficientemente grande como para acomodar mi máquina, hice mi primer prototipo y abrí mi tienda en 2012.
Ahora, sé que soy uno de los afortunados; Me diagnosticaron mucho antes que muchos otros y pude recibir el tratamiento suficiente para volver a mi vida normal (salvo algunos dolores persistentes y sensibilidad a la luz). Muchos otros esperan mucho más tiempo para su diagnóstico o pasan cantidades incalculables de tiempo luchando para obtener el tratamiento que necesitan. Muchos requieren un tratamiento mucho más agresivo durante períodos de tiempo más largos. Muchos nunca encontrarán su camino de regreso a su vida anterior a Lyme.
Al hacer estas cubiertas PICC, espero hacer que los viajes de otros pacientes de Lyme y aquellos que se someten a tratamientos como la quimioterapia sean un poco mejores y más tolerables. ¡Tal vez, solo tal vez, alguien mire su portada y sonría! :D

As I was entering my sophomore year of college I fell ill and spent the following year searching for a diagnosis; finally I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and started my journey back towards wellness. As part of my two years of treatment was 13 months of IV antibiotics. The whole time I struggled with gauze hospital wraps and cut-up socks to cover and protect my PICC line. Later, I realized I should have made something better myself (blame the brain fog). As soon as I had an apartment large enough to accommodate my machine, I made my first prototype and opened my shop in 2012.
Now, I know I am one of the lucky ones; I was diagnosed much sooner than many others and was able to receive sufficient treatment to return to my normal life (save some lingering aches and light sensitivity). Many others wait much longer for their diagnosis or spend untold amounts of time fighting to get the treatment they need. Many require much more aggressive treatment for longer periods of time. Many will never find their way back to their pre-lyme life.
Through making these PICC Covers, I hope to make the journeys of other Lyme patients and those undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy just a little bit better and more tolerable. Maybe, just maybe, someone will look down at their cover and smile! :D
