Cookbook Obsessed!
Come scrittrice di cibo, la mia ossessione è iniziata quando ho riversato sul libro di cucina Betty Crocker di mia madre da bambino. Ho pensato che fosse così bello che le ricette preferite di Dwight & Mamie Eisenhower fossero incluse (bistecca e patate e fagiolini. . . naturalmente).
La mia passione per le ricette vintage è iniziata con il mio primo acquisto di un libro di cucina della moglie di un contadino pubblicato nel 1870. Sono state incluse le istruzioni su come macellare e cucinare un bue. Ero agganciato.
I libri di cucina vintage non sono solo raccolte di ricette, sono la nostra storia. A volte trovi reliquie di ricette estinte da tempo, a volte trovi deplorevoli mostruosità di stampo Jello, ma tutto il tempo trovi qualcosa su cui fulvo, o di cui ridere, o mostrare a qualcuno. Un vero e proprio ricettario dal vivo porta le note a margine, le macchie sulle pagine, la STORIA di ogni volta che si prepara quel piatto preferito. Spero che ti piaccia sfogliare la mia collezione.
As a food writer, my obsession began when I poured over my mother's Betty Crocker cookbook as a child. I thought it was so cool Dwight & Mamie Eisenhower's favorite recipes were included (steak and potatoes and green beans...of COURSE).
My passion for vintage recipes started with my first purchase of a farmer's wife cookbook published in 1870. Instructions for how to butcher and cook an ox were included. I was hooked.
Vintage cookbooks are not only collections of recipes, they are our history. Sometimes you find recipe relics long extinct, sometimes you find regrettable Jello-mold monstrosities, but all the time you find something to fawn over, or laugh about, or show someone. A real live cookbook carries the notes in the margin, the stains on the pages, the HISTORY of every time you make that favorite dish. I hope you enjoy browsing my collection.
