This is a beautiful depiction of the contours of the female body. There is perfect symmetry. At the top you see a woman's upper body facing rightwards - her shoulders, elbows, neck. At the bottom you see a woman's lower half kneeling leftwards - her hips, knees, feet. The contours seem so familiar in each orientation until you realise they are a mirror image. Aesthetics aside, the reason I love this piece is because it illustrates the power of perception. The exact same shape can be perceived in two ways depending on the context in which you see it. And I think that speaks to the way the artist wants society to acknowledge, challenge, and overcome their own perceptive biases in order to change social norms surrounding the female body... Towards something less prescriptive and more embracing -- where beauty is found in diversity.
