This stunning gem quality rare grandidierite 6mm round brilliant cut gem is set in a simple sterling silver six prong Tiffany style, double ear bail, pendant, please see the photo with fingers for scale. I am listing this as a pendant only with no chain because of the high cost of precious metals to try to save folks money in case they have their own chain or want to hang it on silk or leather cord. However, if you would like a chain please let me know and I can alter the listing to include a 16", 17", or 18" dainty chain for an upcharge. This is the nicest largest faceted grandiderite to come across my bench. One of a kind! Domestic shipping is included.

Grandidierite is an interesting story. More than a decade ago I can remember being at the gems shows in Tucson looking for grandidierite gems or even grandidierte specimens that I could cannibalize to make gems and there was none to be had. It was one of the rarest species out there for gems or for mineral specimens. It was known from one local, a cave south of Ft. Daughin in the jungle of Madagascar where the mosquitoes were thick and carrying dengue fever so miners would not go. But in 2016 all that changed. A new deposit of grandidierite was discovered near Tranomaro where it was not as hazardous to mine and the deposit was large, so large that now there is so much grandidierite that you can buy just about any kind of bead made with it too. However, clean, true gem grade grandidierite is still rare and commands high prices.
