Pygmy Owls are adorable little squishy bundles of cuteness! With their cuddly round bodies and heart-shaped faces, there’s plenty to love. Measuring a handheld size of 4.5” tall and 6.5" wide, it's precious to handle. To be sewn from soft fleece or minky fabric, these sweet owlets make wonderful desk companions, thoughtful gifts, or tea party attendees. (A pair of two owls make a cute gift for couples!)

Pygmy Owls live in large colonies inside tree root dens; they bundle together in a fluffy mass to keep warm. They are very social, and love to chirp and sing echoing songs. If any owlet accidentally rolls out of the den, its’ friends rush out to help bring it back inside. Due to their small wings, they cannot fly very well.

This soft toy is designed to be made from fleece/minky/minkee/Soft N Comfy stretch fabric; other fabrics are not recommended as the pattern relies on the stretch to fit the face and make the overall shape round. The beak is hand-sewn using a ladder stitch, so I cannot advise for very young children.

Sewing skill level: Advanced Intermediate / Advanced

In this pattern, you will sew stretch minky convex curved edges to concave edges, sew darts, and sew curved edges to straight edges. I have included stitch diagrams and tips on how to make these easier. You will use a backstitch, whipstitch, ladder stitch, and basting stitch. There are small pieces using ⅛” seam allowance. A sewing machine is not required, but if you use one, only a straight stitch is used.

Special materials needed:

* Minky or fleece (Stretchy and so soft and cuddly, with many colors to choose from) and suede for beak
* 12mm safety eyes (I like GlassEyesOnline.com)
* Embroidery thread, plastic pellets
* Ballpoint machine sewing needle and (optional) 4” doll needle for embroidery
