The Trellis hat allows you to wear your ponytail high, low, or in the middle and keep your head cozy, too. It looks more complicated than it is to knit; the slip-stitch pattern is easy to master.

This is a fun hat to knit and to wear! It's knitted flat, in one piece (no seams!) on straight needles. Unlike many ponytail hats that have only one spot for the ponytail, this hat's button band allows you to position your ponytail/messy bun high, low, or in between. Just undo one button for your ponytail, or undo two buttons for a messy bun.

You will receive two files: one with the original pattern and one with a longer version, for extra ear coverage or those with larger heads/ more hair.

Gauge/tension is 20 stitches and 24 rows/4". You will need just 125 - 150 yards of yarn. I have often used madelinetosh "Vintage" for this hat, but many different yarns work beautifully for this hat. It looks great with solids, tonals, and variegated yarn. The trellis design is formed by a simple slip-stitch pattern.
