This is a one size messy bun hat with a lot of cables. To keep the hole for a bun (or ponytail) from stretching out, a ponytail holder is crocheted to the edge of this hole.
Decreasing of the crown is done at the same time as working cables, so it might be tricky for inexperienced knitters, but all techniques are explained in the pattern.
For this hat you'll need approx 136–164yds / 125–150m of DK (8-ply) yarn
(Purple hat shown in Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK, 1 ball of Jewel 698; pink hat shown in DROPS Karisma, 2 balls of Cerise 13)
Needles: US 4 / 3.5mm, US 6 / 4mm.
Fits head circumference 21–22" / 54–56cm.
Finished measurements:
Purple hat
Circumference, unstretched: 16 ½”/42cm
Length: 7 5/16”/18.5cm
Pink hat
Circumference, unstretched: 16”/41cm
Length: 7 11/16”/19.5cm
Pattern includes written instructions as well as charts.
Skill level: Experienced, because the decreasing is done at the same time with working cables and this could be a bit tricky for beginners.
Required skills: knitting in round, knitting cables (C4L, C4R, T3L, T3R, T4L, T4R), k, kf&b, k2tog, m1p, p, pf&b, p2tog, ssk, single crochet.
You will need PDF software to read this pattern (ie. Adobe Acrobat Reader).
