Let me introduce myself to you; my name is Pieter M. Dorrenboom. I was born and still live in the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I have been working as a professional illustrator for twenty years now. I've made illustrations for Dutch newspapers, magazines and a few children's books. I've also designed record sleeves and made flyers and posters for musical venues.
Although I've participated in several sales exhibitions I never put my work up for sale on the internet up to now. I guess it's about high time!
I make it no secret that I'm very fond of the style icons of bygone eras, especially the mid-century modern period. This has been so ever since my teenage years. Naturally my one work is influenced by the talented comic book artists, illustrators and graphic designers of yesteryear, although I do not try to copy their work to the letter.
I do all my sketching and inking by hand with the use of the old fashioned pencil, brush and ink, acrylic paint and so on. Only the colouring of my work is done digitally, without making use of digital brushes.
On my weblog you can find entries showing the process of making an illustration or an original artwork. You can also read about everything that inspires me.
On my website you can find my portfolio with works I've made over the years.
I hope you'll enjoy browsing through my etsy shop and even more, find something to your liking that you would like to purchase!
