Designs

Carl Jung said that mandalas symbolize a "safe refuge of inner reconciliation and wholeness."
For the last few years, one of my major goals is to cultivate and keep as much peace in my life as possible. Making mandalas plays a big part in that goal. I make mandalas to focus, to meditate, and because I just like looking at them. Human brains are soothed by symmetry, and in this way, mandalas are both therapeutic to create, and therapeutic to view.
Each mandala I paint - whether on a large canvas, or a small wood slice - is created with good intentions in mind: peace, self-acceptance, understanding. I choose colors that I feel mesh well with each other and the overall pattern. Each mandala is created with the hope that the viewer enjoys looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Mandalas are a cross-cultural concept: Celtic knot-work, Native American sand circles, and the Aztec Sun Stone, to name a few. Mandalas have made their way into popular culture - tattoos, tapestries... it's okay if you don't know everything about mandalas (although I do encourage further reading since it's a fascinating subject. A quick google search with give you a ton of options for learning more). It's okay if you just like looking at mandalas because you think they're soothing.
Up until now, all of my sales have been private. I have pieces all over the U.S. - Chicago, San Diego, Palm Springs, Spokane, to name a few. Each piece is made/assembled by me. I often make videos of the process, which are posted to my Instagram. Its a public account if you want to take a peak: @J.Schofield.Designs
