KintsugiJapanStudio werd opgericht door kunstenares Yoko Furuya in Yamanashi, Japan, met als visie om authentieke Japanse Kintsugi aan de wereld te presenteren als ambacht en filosofie.
Kintsugi is de eeuwenoude Japanse kunst van het restaureren van gebroken keramiek met urushi-lak en puur goud. In plaats van scheuren te verbergen, verlicht het ze, waardoor sporen van schade worden omgezet in lijnen van diepe schoonheid en betekenis. Elke gouden naad vertelt een verhaal over veerkracht, geschiedenis en vernieuwing.
Bij KintsugiJapanStudio wordt elk stuk minutieus met de hand gerestaureerd met behulp van traditionele urushi-technieken. Deze werken zijn niet zomaar reparaties – het zijn wedergeboortes. Elk voorwerp wordt een eerbetoon aan zijn eigen geschiedenis en een uiting van de Japanse esthetiek van wabi-sabi.
