How I keep my children under 6 busy for a long time without any screentime!
Sono una mamma SAHM di due energici ragazzi sotto i 6 anni. Durante la pandemia, ho incontrato un posto di blocco rimanendo bloccato a casa tutto il giorno. C'era un sacco di tempo sullo schermo, il disordine di giocattoli, bidoni sensoriali, arte e artigianato. Questo mi ha lasciato svuotato ed esausto senza tempo per la cura di sé, cucinare la cena in pace o persino bere una tazza di caffè caldo. Ero stanco, esausto e più irritabile dei bambini!
Ho deciso di istruire a casa mio figlio più grande e ho stampato fogli di lavoro e pagine di tracciamento il nostro primo giorno ... indovina cosa è successo? E' stato un disastro!!
Si rifiutò di fare un solo foglio di lavoro e il mio più giovane era costantemente al mio fianco a chiedere attenzione lasciandomi così frustrato.
Così il mio viaggio è iniziato nel rendere stampabili libri affollati, flashcard e poster / grafici di apprendimento per i miei figli e io lo abbiamo chiamato LearningPacks. Ho incorporato temi che i bambini amano (come arcobaleni, veicoli, dinosauri e animali) con l'educazione. Le pagine di attività sono state laminate (o messe in maniche di plastica) per renderle riutilizzabili e organizzate in raccoglitori e ho tenuto con sé un pacchetto di pennarelli riutilizzabili.
Indovina, cosa è successo dopo?
entrambi i bambini hanno tranquillamente completato tutte le loro pagine di libri occupati con un'assistenza minima
entrambi erano FELICI ed ENTUSIASTI delle attività di apprendimento
entrambi non richiedevano tempo sullo schermo!
Sono stati intrattenuti e assorbiti per molto tempo
NESSUN CAPRICCIO!
Nessun combattimento
Nessun pasticcio
E che dire di 'The Mom'?
Beh, potrei FINALMENTE
Cucina la cena in pace
Bevi CAFFÈ tranquillamente
Fai una doccia
senza molto SCREENTIME!

Le attività pratiche sono eccellenti per i bambini, ma la maggior parte di esse finisce con un GRANDE PASTICCIO e non sono affatto pratiche quando hai finalmente finito con la cena solo per trovare riso sensoriale su tutto il pavimento.
Temevo attività pratiche perché c'era Play-Doh bloccato sul tappeto, vernici sulle pareti, grande pozzanghera d'acqua sul pavimento!
Bene, non sono CONTRARIO ma richiede una supervisione COMPLETA per evitare il caos.
E se ti senti in colpa per aver dato troppo tempo sullo schermo, va bene! L'ho fatto anch'io :) Le mamme hanno bisogno di una pausa mentale e fisica, giusto?

I am a SAHM mom of two energetic boys under 6. During the pandemic, I hit a roadblock being stuck at home the whole day. There was lots of screen time, the mess from toys, sensory bins, and art and crafts. This left me drained and exhausted with no time for self-care, cooking dinner in peace, or even having a cup of hot coffee. I was tired, exhausted, and crankier than the kids!
I decided to homeschool my older child and printed worksheets and tracing pages on our first day….guess what happened? It was a disaster!!
He refused to do a single worksheet and my younger one was constantly at my hip demanding attention leaving me so frustrated.
Thus my journey began in making busy books printable, flashcards, and Learning posters/charts for both my kids and I called it LearningPacks. I incorporated themes that toddlers love (like rainbows, vehicles, dinosaurs, and animals) with education. The activity pages were laminated(or put in plastic sleeves) to make them reusable and organized in binders and I kept a pack of reusable markers with it.
Guess, What happened next?
both the children quietly completed all their busy book pages with minimal assistance
both were HAPPY and EXCITED about the learning activities
both didn't demand screen time!
They were entertained and engrossed for a long time
NO TANTRUM!
No fights
No mess
And What about ‘The Mom’?
Well, I could FINALLY
Cook dinner in peace
Drink COFFEE quietly
Take a shower
without much SCREENTIME!

Hands-on activities are excellent for children but most of them end up with a BIG MESS and are not at all practical when you are finally done with the dinner only to find sensory rice all over the floor.
I dreaded hands-on activities as there was Play-Doh stuck on the carpet, paints on the walls, big puddle of water on the floor!
Well, I am not AGAINST it but it requires COMPLETE supervision to avoid the mess.
And if you are feeling guilty about giving too much screen time - that's okay! I have done it too :) Moms need a mental AND physical break, right?
